‘This Is Us’ Fans ‘Rooting’ for a Kevin and Cassidy Reunion, With a Twist
As the curtain continues to fall on the sixth and final season of This Is Us, viewers yearn for closure to several different storylines which have puzzled them throughout the years. One of these was the quick relationship between Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Cassidy (Jennifer Morrison), both emotionally tied to Nicky (Griffin Dunne). In a social media thread, fans claimed they are “rooting’ for a Kevin and Cassidy reunion, with a twist, as the series winds down.
Kevin and Cassidy’s backstory
When This Is Us introduced the character of Cassidy Sharp, viewers were sure she was to be a new love interest for Kevin. Instead, their relationship took a more meaningful turn. Kevin and Cassidy were both being recovering addicts. However, they found they bonded over life’s small and simple things.
Cassidy came into Nicky and Kevin’s life shortly after the Pearson sibling found his long-lost uncle, his father’s brother, living alone in a camper in Bradford, PA. Nicky’s home was three hours away from where Jack raised his family in Pittsburgh.
Due to their shared dependencies, Nicky, Kevin, and Cassidy fought through their issues together.
Cassidy and Nicky were veterans and used alcohol to numb the pain of their past. Kevin fell heavily into prescription drug use after injuring his knee on set, causing a flare-up of his old football injury. He later drank to numb his pain.
Kevin and Cassidy’s friendship progressed to a physical relationship. Both appeared to be remorseful about their decision to jeopardize their close bond by sleeping together.

At the close of season 5, Kevin and Madison’s wedding did not go ahead as planned. This upheaval left Kevin a single father of twins.
While some viewers have rooted for the character and his former fiance to reunite, others are hopeful that not only will Kevin and Cassidy circle back to one another again, they will remain together.
In a Reddit thread, viewers appear to cling to the idea that the twosome will reunite during Nicky’s wedding to Edie (Vanessa Bell Calloway).
“I was wondering if she helps him get his family back together just like he tried to help her get his family back together. The rewatch of their episodes was clear. They both thought it was a huge mistake, and after it happened, Nicky gave him such a hard time imagining Jack saying it to him instead of Nicky. It would be quite a stretch to go from that kind of remorse to marriage,” a fan wrote.
“There was a flashback of Kevin talking to Kate about moving to a small town, finding a good woman (which flashed to him with Cassidy), and maybe having a couple of kids. Cassidy once told Kevin she hopes he finds his happy ending. That could all be foreshadowing that Cassidy is the one he ends up with at the end. I figure it will wind up being Madison, but I am still rooting for a Kevin and Cassidy reunion,” a second viewer explained.
Will the character of Cassidy appear during season 6 of ‘This Is Us’?
It is unknown if Cassidy will return to appear during her friend Nicky’s wedding to Edie. However, as This Is Us has a long history of adding storyline twists, anything could happen as the show attempts to tie up the loose ends of the Pearson family.
Thus far, the show has only released the names and teasers of four episodes. The character of Cassidy is reportedly not involved in any of those already scheduled.
