‘This Is Us’: Justin Hartley Says It Would Be a ‘Tragedy’ If Sophie and Kevin Didn’t Stay Together
Kevin Pearson (Justin Hartley) has come a long way since This Is Us began, and he’s ending season 6 back with the woman he’s loved all along: Sophie (Alexandra Breckenridge). The two rekindled their relationship during the NBC show’s most recent episode. And it seems like they’re sticking together moving forward — meaning she’s likely Kevin’s wife from This Is Us‘ flash-forward scenes.

Sophie and Kevin get back together in ‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Episode 14
This Is Us Season 6 Episode 14 takes viewers to the evening before Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Phillip (Chris Geere) say their vows, but it focuses heavily on another couple: Kevin and Sophie. The two reunite in “The Night Before the Wedding,” and Sophie reveals she’s no longer married to Grant. From there, it becomes increasingly clear she and Kevin have feelings for one another. And despite initial reservations on Sophie’s part, the pair pursues them.
In an emotional scene toward the end of the episode, Sophie admits she wants to be with Kevin but doesn’t want to repeat the same cycles. He then reveals he’s never given up on her fully, taking out a Valentine from their childhood years. The two have grown a lot since then, and it looks like they’ll use that to further their relationship. In fact, Justin Hartley cites their development as the reason they need to end up together.
Justin Hartley says it would be a ‘tragedy’ if the couple isn’t endgame
Although This Is Us jumped to Kate and Phillip’s wedding in its latest episode, it didn’t feature the primary flash-forward storyline. However, it seems Sophie will be Kevin’s wife in the future.
During an interview with Variety, Justin Hartley admitted how terrible it would be if the two weren’t endgame:
“I think that you can safely assume that. Gosh, that would be a tragedy of epic proportions. No. 1, how many times is this guy going to mess up? And even worse, how many times is this woman going to let him back? So I think it’s safe to assume that they have found their peace and they’ve found their partner and it was always the same person all along — and through a bunch of missteps and immaturity that played a huge role.”
Given all the growth Hartley’s character has undergone, he’s got a point that another split would feel out of place. And as Alexandra Breckenridge told Variety, “I think it would be a very short time in which to partner him with someone else by the end of the show. We’ve only got four more episodes!”
It’s true that This Is Us doesn’t have much time left to tie up loose ends. Still, it seems we might see more of Kevin and Sophie’s relationship before the NBC series comes to a close.
Will ‘This Is Us’ show more of Kevin and Sophie?
This Is Us only has a few more chapters before taking its final bow, but fans haven’t seen the last of Kevin and Sophie. Although “The Night Before the Wedding” is likely to be one of the couple’s more emotional final scenes, Alexandra Breckenridge teased the possibility of more scenes with Justin Hartley before This Is Us concludes.
“There’s only a few episodes left, but you’ll see Kevin and Sophie together,” Breckenridge told Glamour. “They continue to have a wonderful relationship because they were able to develop as their own fully formed humans before getting into a relationship.”
Some fans may not be thrilled with that ending for the couple, but others will no doubt revel in it. And it’s nice to see Kevin getting his happy ending after all this time.
New episodes of This Is Us air on Tuesdays on NBC.
