‘This Is Us’ Season 5: Kevin and Madison Reveal Their Big News, But Is Madison the Fiancée?
The This Is Us Season 4 finale blew fans out of the water when Madison (Caitlin Thompson) revealed she was pregnant with Kevin’s (Justin Hartley) twins. But does the big reveal necessarily make the couple endgame? The recent This Is Us Season 5 trailers teased Kevin and Madison’s relationship moving forward, including whether the mother of Kevin’s children is actually the mysterious fiancée from the fall finale.
Who is Madison and is she Kevin fiancée on ‘This Is Us’?
In the This Is Us Season 4 fall finale, Kevin revealed he had a pregnant fianccée by his 40th birthday. Then Madison told Kevin she was pregnant with twins in the season finale. That said, the NBC drama hasn’t officially confirmed Madison as the fiancée. Back in March, creator Dan Fogelman hinted Kevin’s love story doesn’t end anytime soon.
“There’s an immediate answer coming to all of that,” Fogelman told The Hollywood Reporter of Kevin’s fiancée. “But I think that there’s basically many more chapters in Kevin’s romantic story. … We have mapped out plans for the entire next and sixth season, honestly. So Kevin has a journey ahead of him.”
The ‘This Is Us’ Season 5 premiere promos tease what’s next for Madison and Kevin
Although Madison is the mother of Kevin’s twins on This Is Us, she was first introduced to fans as Kate’s (Chrissy Metz) best friend. Following the finale, Metz revealed Kate will be shocked when she finds out about Madison’s pregnancy. However, the actor knows her character will remain supportive.
“I think that Kate was in shock. ‘What the hell? This is the only friend I have, and this is what you do?’” Metz told Stylecaster in June. “But I think Kate is going to know what’s good for Kevin.”
Then in a clip released ahead of the This Is Us Season 5 premiere, NBC showed how Madison and Kevin will tell Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Toby (Chris Sullivan) about the pregnancy. At the start of the teaser, Kevin approaches Kate’s home with a mask on, as the premiere will address the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
While keeping a safe distance from Kate and Toby, Kevin says he has big news that didn’t seem “Zoom appropriate.” Immediately, Toby asks whether Kevin nabbed the lead role on the new Batman. Kevin declines the theory. So Toby joking says, “Did you get somebody knocked up?”
Eventually, Kate realizes her brother isn’t joking around. He got someone pregnant, and she is floored. Then when Madison steps out of the car, she looks upset. But when Kevin asks Kate to share her thoughts, she gleefully congratulates her brother and best friend. “I am feeling like we need a massive air hug right now,” Kate says. “Oh my goodness, congratulations!”
That said, it’s likely Kate will voice a bit of concern about Madison and Kevin’s situation later on. In another promo for the This Is Us Season 5 premiere, Kate calls out Kevin for calling Madison his fiancée.
“You’re gonna need to explain your use of the word fiancée,” she tells her brother.
Meanwhile, Madison and Kevin do not appear to be wearing rings in any of the season 5 previews. So while the Pearsons are on board with Kevin and Madison’s growing family on This Is Us, it certainly seems there’s a lot to unravel when the NBC drama returns.
