In all honesty, we don’t know how Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Kevin (Justin Hartley) can come back from their fight in the This Is Us Season 4 finale. Both Pearson brothers knew exactly what to say to destroy an already complicated relationship. But in a recent interview, Brown shared a bit of hope for Kevin and Randall as we approach This Is Us Season 5.

What did Kevin and Randall say in ‘This Is Us’ Season 4?

The tension between Randall and Kevin came to a head in This Is Us Season 4. Both individuals have always bickered and disagreed on a number of issues. But this argument was different.

Throughout the season, it became increasingly clear that something was wrong with Rebecca (Mandy Moore). Finally, she received her mild cognitive impairment diagnosis. She also wanted to spend the rest of her days with her family, which Kevin agreed with. However, Randall was on a different page.

During a therapy session, Randall revealed he couldn’t handle the thought of losing his mother. So he pleaded Rebecca to do a medical trial that took place hundreds of miles away from the family. Then Rebecca agreed. But when Kevin found out about Randall’s push, the two brothers fought.

Eventually, the argument between Randall and Kevin turned into a screaming match that had nothing to do with Rebecca’s care. Randall called out his brother for being selfish and claimed Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) died disappointed in him. Kevin also told Randall his adoption day was worse than their father’s death.

The This Is Us Season 4 fall finale contained a flashforward of the Big Three’s 40th celebration. This was also the moment fans found out Kevin and Randall were not speaking. And because each season begins with Kate(Chrissy Metz), Kevin, and Randall’s birthday, it seems the Pearson brothers are still arguing by the This Is Us Season 5 premiere.

That said, Brown previously shared viewers will continue to see Kevin and Randall “fray and then resolve.” Then recently, the actor hinted the rift between the brothers will smooth things over. But it won’t be an overnight fix.

“It was kinda tense amongst the Pearson brothers,” Brown told The Talk in September. “And it’s just like any other family. You have your ups and downs. My mom used to always say, ‘If you can deal with your family, you can deal with anybody.’ You don’t get a chance to choose them. They’re the people that you’re given and you just gotta stick it out.”

He continued, “You know in the future that these two brothers come together while they’re around their mom, and she’s sick. So hopefully, we get a chance to see how they build their way back to each other. But it’s not going to be easy.”
