‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Cast Teases the New Premiere Date: ‘I’m Already Crying’
It’s official — This Is Us is coming back soon with the next new episode of season 6. After a long hiatus following the season 5 finale, NBC finally dropped the midseason schedule. So naturally, a few members from the This Is Us Season 6 cast shared their thoughts about the upcoming premiere date in 2022, and it certainly looks like the start of the final chapter will be an emotional journey.
The ‘This Is Us’ Season 6 premiere date in 2022
On Nov. 12, NBC released its midseason schedule, confirming the This Is Us Season 6 premiere date on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022. The network revealed the family drama will claim its usual 9 p.m. ET time slot for the sixth and final season.
Meanwhile, the first of 18 episodes will run for an hour-long, ending at 10 p.m. ET. The new This Is Us episode is also expected to be released on Hulu starting on Wednesday, Jan. 5.
‘This Is Us’ Season 6 cast members tease the new release date
When NBC confirmed the This Is Us Season 6 start date, a few current cast members expressed their excitement on social media. On Instagram, Susan Kelechi Watson, who plays Beth Pearson, shared the Jan. 4 premiere date and teased “our final chapter” with a new promo photo featuring major characters and relationships. Chrissy Metz, who plays Kate Pearson, also shared the picture on Instagram and suggested that the team “saved the best for last.”
“The final chapter… I promise we saved the best for last. We’ll see you on January 4,” Metz wrote.
Meanwhile, Mandy Moore, who plays Rebecca Pearson, echoed her fellow This Is Us cast members with an Instagram post of her own. The actor also hinted that she’s starting to get emotional about the sixth and final season.
“I’m already crying,” Moore wrote. “Join us January 4th to begin the journey to the finish line. Trust me, it’s the best season yet. #thisisus #season6.”
‘This Is Us’ creator opens up about the last season
Now, the cast members of This Is Us Season 6 aren’t the only people who are excited — and emotional — about the last chapter. On Nov. 12, creator Dan Fogelman shared his thoughts following the official release date announcement.
“I’m very excited. I’m also incredibly sad,” Fogelman wrote on Twitter. “We’re pretty deep in and Season Six is turning me inside out. #ThisIsUs.”
There are a lot of mixed feelings surrounding the end of This Is Us. But whatever happens when the NBC drama comes back, it seems the team believes in the final story they’ll tell in season 6.
“All the questions that you’re asking … we’ve had it very carefully mapped out,” Fogelman told Deadline in August 2021. “So, love it or hate it, we get to go out the way we’ve always planned on going out and executing the plan. I feel very confident in it, and I’m excited about this season.”
This Is Us returns with the season 6 premiere on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022.
