This Is Us Season 6 is off to an emotional start, and it all continues in the next new episode on Tuesday, Jan. 11. So what can fans expect from the upcoming installment of the final chapter? New ‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Episode 2 promo trailer updates fans on Deja and Malik
The end of This Is Us Season 5 dropped two bombshells on Deja and Malik’s (Asante Blackk) relationship. Janelle’s birth mother, Jennifer, wanted to be back in her daughter’s life. Malik also got into Harvard near Boston, which is hours away from Philadelphia. So many fans wondered how Malik and Deja were going to make it work in the future.
That said, the Jan. 4 premiere provided a mini update on the couple, revealing Deja and Malik are still together. Now, the This Is Us Season 6 Episode 2 promo confirms the next episode on Jan. 11 will focus on their love story.
In the new teaser, Deja says goodbye to Randall (Sterling K. Brown) before getting on a bus to Boston to see Malik. The two lovebirds beam once they see each other again. Then before heading out for what looks like a date, Malik sweetly tells Deja she looks “incandescent.”

There are two love stories heavily featured in the trailer for This Is Us Season 6 Episode 2. First up is Deja and Malik. The other journey will showcase Nicky and his long-lost love.
Previously, young Nicky (Michael Angarano) met a girl named Sally (Genevieve Angelson), and he fell head over heels for her. The two hooked up, and they planned to run away to California together. But in the end, Nicky decided to stay, and they never saw each other again.
However, Nicky looked up Sally online in This Is Us Season 5. Then in the season 6 premiere, Nicky kept going on and on about Sally. So Rebecca (Mandy Moore) suggested that they take a road trip to see her.
Now, the This Is Us Season 6 Episode 2 preview reveals that Rebecca, Nicky, and Miguel (Jon Huertas) will be driving to Sally in the next episode. While packing up the car, Rebecca asks Nicky whether his ex is married, single, or divorced now. But whatever her deal is, it seems Nicky meets Sally again.

What to expect from ‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Episode 2, ‘One Giant Leap’
For now, This Is Us fans will have to wait and see how these journeys unfold in season 6 episode 2. But whatever happens next, it seems like the new episode is simply about love. When speaking with Entertainment Weekly, creator Dan Fogelman teased why Deja and Nicky’s stories were put together in “One Giant Leap.” Fogelman said:
“It’s two romantic road-trip love stories, one between young people with Deja and Malik, and one between older people, as Rebecca and Miguel lead Nicky on this road trip to find Sally. I love writing about love and people falling in love. … And to put that type of love and romance opposite these much more verbal, much more broken older people who’ve experienced loss and love and marriage and multiple loves and multiple lives, it felt like such rich territory.”
Meanwhile, Fogelman hinted that the second episode of the last season will include a scene set in the future. The series creator also promised fans that a couple of questions will be answered.
“This one definitely has a few of the answers of a few of the questions that I’ve been asked in terms of ‘What’s going on at the future house?’ By the end of our second episode, at least one or two of those questions will have been answered,” Fogelman said.
