‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Episode 8 Preview: Kevin Reconnects With 1 Past Love Interest
Thankfully, This Is Us Season 6 will air uninterrupted, with no breaks, until the series finale on May 24. And to celebrate, the show has a special treat for fans. The next three episodes will individually focus on Kevin, Kate, and Randall. Collectively, it will be the third and final Big Three trilogy of the series. And it will kick off with a Kevin-centric hour in This Is Us Season 6 Episode 8.
Kevin struggles to be a good man in the ‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Episode 8 preview
This Is Us Season 6 Episode 7 featured a difficult talk between Rebecca and her kids, which Kevin will take to heart. In the preview for episode 8, following Rebecca telling the Big Three that she doesn’t want her Alzheimer’s to hold them back, Kevin seems to reflect on his life.
The trailer shows Kevin as a child, a young adult, and in the present day. When he’s a kid, Jack and Rebecca take the Big Three to the community pool, and Kevin tries to swim in the deep end. Jack has to save him when he struggles to remain afloat, though. And his father tells him, “You’re not ready for the deep end, OK?”
Following the awkward Thanksgiving with Rebecca and Miguel, a newly single Kevin retreats to the drained pool with his siblings in the promo. He says, “I’m not solid. I don’t have the right stuff underneath me.”
And near the end of the This Is Us Season 6 Episode 8 preview, an adult Kevin reflects, “I want to be the kind of man that does the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.”
‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Episode 8 trailer reveals Cassidy’s return
The promo for the upcoming episode also teases the return of Cassidy, played by Jennifer Morrison. As fans recall, the last time we, and Kevin, saw the veteran was when she rejected him.
Kevin, who has recently struggled in the love department, tried to start something with Cassidy in This Is Us Season 6 Episode 5. But she turned him down because she was aware of his reputation for “blowing up women’s lives.” And Cassidy just wanted to protect herself because she’s “too messed up already.”
However, Kevin did ask Cassidy to help him with the construction of Rebecca’s house. And given her presence in the new preview, it seems like she will take him up on his offer. They were friends first, so perhaps they will stay at that stage forever. But given the trailer for This Is Us Season 6 Episode 8, we wouldn’t discount Cassidy as a candidate for Kevin’s heart just yet.
In the preview, it seems like Kevin is teaching Cassidy’s son how to play the guitar at the cabin. And Cassidy is looking at them lovingly.
‘This Is Us’ writer teases the Kevin-centric hour
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, This Is Us co-producer Laura Kenar teased episode 8, “The Guitar Man.”
Kenar shared, “Off of Rebecca’s speech to her kids, Kevin spends some time at the cabin with the twins and reconnects with Cassidy and Nicky as they work on building the house.”
As for the next three episodes as a whole, the co-producer describes them as “Empowering. It’s the Big Three figuring out what they want their next chapters of their lives to be off of Rebecca’s speech. And it’s different things for all three of them.”
The synopsis for This Is Us Season 6 Episode 8 reads, “Kevin takes the twins to the cabin in hopes of proving himself as a father.” Per IMDb, Milo Ventimiglia is directing the hour, and Dan Fogelman, Kevin Falls, and Jake Schnesel co-wrote it.
The Kevin-centric hour of the Big Three trilogy airs Tuesday, March 15, at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
