NBC’s This Is Us Season 6 finale marks the end of an era for the Pearson family. This season, fans saw the end of Kate’s marriage to Toby and the beginning of her marriage to Phillip. Now, fans will watch as Kate and her siblings make major decisions regarding Rebecca’s caretaking. Then, we’ll say goodbye to Kate Pearson forever — but Chrissy Metz has a few ideas of what she’ll get up to after the show ends.

The This Is Us Season 6 finale is sure to bring tears to fans’ eyes as they say goodbye to Rebecca, Kate, Randall, and Kevin Pearson. Chrissy Metz plays the beloved Kate, and viewers watched her grow immensely through the last six seasons of the show.
“I am her; she is me,” Metz told Verywell Mind. “[We] always put ourselves into our roles. And I think Kate is so much of who I used to be. And so now that she’s becoming this very empowered woman who’s speaking up for herself, I, in turn, find myself doing that in different ways.”
Metz also reflected on how emotional she feels about leaving Kate behind. “Because there’s so much — it’s six years, it’s family, it’s friends, it’s job security, it’s trying to not find your identity in your role, and believing that there are other things that I’m also supposed to do after the show is over,” she added.

What is Chrissy Metz up to after the This Is Us Season 6 finale? She told Today that she adores singing and hopes to finish her album and tour. She’s also open to revisiting the small screen — though she wants her next character to be different. “I’d love to produce and star in something, maybe a TV show,” she told the publication. As far as her next character goes, she wants to play someone “maybe a little acerbic, maybe a little more sassy and sure of herself than Kate Pearson ever was, (and) maybe (has) a little attitude.”
Metz also spoke to Verywell Mind about her next steps. In 2021, she launched Joyful Heart Wine Company, so she’ll continue with this endeavor. She also has aspirations to write a Broadway play or star in a Broadway show. Overall, Metz wants to keep balance in her life and “stay ready” for whatever opportunities present themselves.
“Everything’s pie in the sky until it actually happens,” she told Verywell Mind. She added she’ll “[stay] creative and find more balance. That’s really what’s important to me.”
Why is ‘This Is Us’ ending after season 6?
The cast and crew are extremely sad to see the end of the beloved series. So, why is the This Is Us Season 6 finale the final episode ever?
“It’s hard ending something you love, so I don’t know that everybody feels right now it’s the right place to end it,” series creator Dan Fogelman said at a Television Critics Association press event in February 2022, according to NBC Insider. “Because I think if we could all snap our fingers and just magically have more of this, we probably would.”
Fogelman also said he “planned” for five years of the series and it’s ending just as intended. “And so we’re on a five‑year path, and to suddenly pivot and add more because we don’t want it to end, it wouldn’t be quite responsible to the show and what we have planned, and it would start becoming something else,” he added.
This Is Us Season 6 airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
