‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Finale: Toby Actor Chris Sullivan Films Final Scenes in Funeral Attire
Fans are sad to see NBC’s This Is Us Season 6 finale coming so soon. The final three episodes are sure to break fans’ hearts, as it’s clear Rebecca’s death is imminent. And Toby actor Chris Sullivan posted a photo to Instagram that looks like he attended a funeral in a scene. Here’s what fans noticed.

Kate and Toby’s relationship didn’t last, and Kate fully moved on and married Phillip in This Is Us Season 6. But she and Toby still keep in touch. The new trailer for the episode premiering on May 10, 2022, gives a few clues regarding what Kate may have to do for Rebecca moving forward.
The trailer for the episode, titled “Family Meeting,” shows Randall, Kevin, and Kate coming together to decide the next steps for Rebecca after Miguel’s death.
“Our mother was magic,” Randall’s voiceover states in the promo as Kate and Rebecca walk together in nature. “We need to pay her back for everything she did.” Then, Randall is seen speaking with Kate and Kevin. “I think we need to have a family meeting,” he says.
Randall then suggests he should take care of Rebecca moving forward, but Kevin doesn’t agree. “This is the opposite of what she wanted,” Kevin states. “I want to honor her wishes if it kills me.”
Finally, Kate and Toby talk about Rebecca on the phone. Toby tells Kate, “Your mom chose you for a reason.” This references the season 6 episode 7 moment when Rebecca says Kate will be her primary caretaker if Miguel dies. At the end of the episode 16 trailer, Kate tells Randall that he and Kevin don’t truly “look” at their mother the way she needs.

With Rebecca’s death imminent by the This Is Us Season 6 finale, fans wonder how the show will treat the devastating loss. Given what Toby actor Chris Sullivan posted, it seems likely there will be a funeral scene. Sullivan posted a photo with actor Griffin Dunne on May 5, 2022, and they’re both dressed in black.
“We have wrapped my final scenes for #thisisus,” Sullivan captioned the post. “What an incredible six years these have been. With every end, there is a new beginning … so, here is a trailer of what’s to come. Watch til the end! Oh, and a photo of me with Hollywood icon, @griffindunne.”
“They’re wearing black suits so yeah, definitely her funeral,” a fan on Reddit noted about Sullivan’s post.
“It does look like they are dressed for a funeral,” another fan wrote. “I hope the last episode does not concentrate on her funeral. It seemed like she might pass in episode 17, ‘The Train.'”
What will happen during the ‘This Is Us’ Season 6 finale?
What can fans expect to happen during the This Is Us Season 6 finale? Many fans suspect Rebecca will die in episode 17, as Mandy Moore confirmed she threw up from the penultimate episode’s script. If Rebecca’s death happens in episode 17, then episode 18, titled “Us,” will likely focus on the Pearson family moving forward.
It’s possible the final episode will feature flashbacks of Rebecca and Jack together through the years, as they can finally reunite in death. “Us” might also bring the future generations of Pearsons to the forefront. Fans could see the Pearson children grow up in flash-forward sequences.
No matter what, creator Dan Fogelman promises fans will be “uplifted at the end,” according to TV Insider.
