‘This Is Us’ Season 6: Justin Hartley Addresses the Topic of Kevin’s Love Life, ‘He’s OK Being Alone’
One of the biggest questions that the audience has about the Pearson family’s future in This Is Us Season 6 is about who Kevin ends up with. There are many different roads that he can take, but we likely won’t know which one is the right path until the This Is Us series finale. While fans might not know who Kevin’s soulmate is, Justin Hartley claims that his character is fine with being single at the moment.
Kevin is currently single in ‘This Is Us’ Season 6
Things were looking up for Kevin in This Is Us Season 5 in terms of his love life. He was engaged to the mother of his twin babies, and he was on good terms with his ex-girlfriends. However, in the finale, Madison gave both herself and Kevin a reality check; they shouldn’t get married just because of their kids.
Madison made Kevin admit that he wasn’t in love with her; he was only in love with the idea of their family. And Madison realized that she deserved to be with someone who loved her. So, they called off their wedding and decided to continue as co-parents.
In the This Is Us Season 6 premiere, Kevin lived in Madison’s garage to be closer to the babies. But once Madison started to show an interest in dating, they realized that their proximity wasn’t a good idea. So, Kevin moved in with Kate until he found a permanent place.
Justin Hartley comments on Kevin’s romantic journey in ‘This Is Us’ Season 6
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Justin Hartley previewed Kevin’s story in This Is Us Season 6.
“He’s bound and determined to be this wonderful, great father to these twins,” Hartley shared. “It hasn’t gone the way that he wanted it to go. He’s single parenting in a way, co-parenting in other ways, spending half the time with his kids — not all the time with his kids. It becomes his new reality. It’s not something that he would’ve written and wanted to go that way. It’s not a storybook or a fairy tale, but it’s his reality. And he’s dealing with it.”
The actor added, “He looks at things, and he goes, ‘This is the way it is. I’m not going to sit around and b**** about it. I’m going to actually figure it out.'”
In terms of where Kevin is at in his love life, Hartley said, “When he finally wraps his brain around the fact that it’s actually OK to be alone, that opens him up to be available to other people, instead of the square peg/round hole thing that he constantly tries to do. He’s OK being alone. He’s not lonely, he’s alone. That’s totally different. And I think that opens him to love.”
So, Kevin will have to get comfortable being by himself before he finds the love of his life in This Is Us Season 6.
Justin Hartley prepares to say goodbye his character and the show
Like the rest of the This Is Us cast, Justin Hartley is getting ready for the end. Most of the cast reflected on their time on the show with E! News, and Hartley shared what This Is Us has meant to him.
“I would be in New York doing press, or I’d be in LA having lunch — wherever I was — and people would come up to me and tell me these very intimate, private details of their lives, how the show affected them in a relationship with their father or their mother or their son or their brother,” he said. “How it helped them get over the loss of someone dear to them.”
Hartley added, “I mean, who would have ever thought as an actor that you get an opportunity to be on a show like this that impacts so many people’s lives that you will never meet? What an absolute treat.”
While contemplating saying goodbye, Hartley said, “Instead of thinking about it as ‘I’m gonna be so sad this is over,’ enjoy the ride. It’s hard to do sometimes, but, man, it’s over in a second. I can’t believe I’ve been doing this show for almost six years. It seems like six minutes.”
