‘This Is Us’ Season 6: Justin Hartley Previews Kevin’s Parenting in Final Episodes: ‘There’s Some Conflict’
NBC’s This Is Us Season 6 Episode 16 brings the Pearsons together to discuss caring for Rebecca after Miguel’s death. The Big Three are bound to have differing opinions regarding Rebecca’s fate. And Kevin actor Justin Hartley previewed additional “conflict” between himself and his kids as the final episodes air. Here’s what Hartley said.
Are Madison and Kevin together in the future of ‘This Is Us’? They have children together
While many fans hoped to see Madison and Kevin work out a future together, it’s Kevin and Sophie who reconnect and find love once more. Kevin and Sophie catch up during Kate Pearson’s wedding, and that’s when Kevin learns that Sophie and her husband, Grant, divorced. The night before the wedding, Kevin and Sophie get intimate, and they solidify their relationship from that point forward. Eagle-eyed fans even noticed Kevin was wearing a wedding ring in a flash-forward sequence in This Is Us Season 6 Episode 15.
“There are only a few episodes left, but you’ll see Kevin and Sophie together,” Sophie actor Alexandra Breckenridge tells Glamour. “They continue to have a wonderful relationship because they were able to develop as their own fully formed humans before getting into a relationship.”
As for Madison, she connects romantically with Elijah. photos from This Is Us Season 6 Episode 16 show Madison and Eli arriving at the Pearson family home. It’s unclear why they’re there, but it might be to discuss parenting arrangements with Kevin while he assists in caring for Rebecca.
Justin Hartley says there’s ‘conflict’ in Kevin’s parenting up until the ‘This Is Us’ Season 6 finale
While Justin and Sophie are together through the This Is Us Season 6 finale, he still has children with Madison. The exes have twins together. Justin Hartley told Variety that fans will see “conflict” with his parenting.
“Look, Kevin wasn’t the easiest child growing up,” Hartley tells Variety. “So, you can imagine if he has twins, and he has a boy, you can imagine that maybe the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree and maybe there’s some conflict there, as well. Because it’s too good to be true that he has these two really wonderful, lovely all-the-time, perfect children. They don’t exist.”
Hartley compared Kevin’s parenting to what fans may remember from Jack Pearson, too. “Remember when we used to see Jack be like, ‘Get your a** upstairs,’ because Kevin was being a little pill?” Hartley questioned. “Now, you see Kevin dealing with his kid, saying, ‘Go to your room! You’ve got to be kidding!’ It’s pretty good stuff.”
Justin Hartley calls Rebecca Pearson’s mental deterioration ‘heartbreaking’
In addition to seeing Kevin’s evolving relationship with his children, Justin Hartley previewed Rebecca’s mental deterioration and how it affects the Big Three.
“First of all, it’s heartbreaking,” Hartley tells Variety. “You can’t help but think of your own mother. … So, you can’t help but fill in those people in those spaces and think, ‘Oh my God, that’s got to be the most impossible thing. What would I do?’ And then on top of that, if you look at the character and his development, what Kevin would have done was probably panic and freak out and not be able to handle it.”
This Is Us Season 6 airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
