‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Reveals the Father of Deja’s Baby
The penultimate hour of This Is Us was emotional from beginning to end as the Pearsons gathered to say goodbye to Rebecca. But there was happiness sprinkled throughout This Is Us Season 6 Episode 17, including Deja telling Randall she is pregnant. And viewers finally discovered the father’s identity.

‘This Is Us’ revealed Deja was pregnant in season 5
This Is Us has teased a mysterious flash-forward since season 2, which we now know is the day that the Pearsons gather to say goodbye to Rebecca. And in one of the scenes in season 5, fans saw an adult Deja drive with Annie to Kevin’s house. During that flash-forward, the sisters discussed how Deja was pregnant, but no one else knew.
Many suspected that Deja’s high school sweetheart Malik could be the father of her baby. But then the two broke up in This Is Us Season 6 Episode 10. And knowing the NBC drama, the father could have been anyone. This Is Us does not shy away from plot twists.
When Entertainment Weekly asked This Is Us executive producer Kay Oyegun if fans should hope for Malik to be the father of Deja’s baby, she said, “I think that someone fathered Deja’s baby — and I can’t wait for everyone to find out who it is. [Laughs]”
Who is the father of Deja’s baby in ‘This Is Us’?
Among the sadness and goodbyes, This Is Us Season 6 Episode 17 contained a sprinkle of light when it revealed the identity of the father of Deja’s child.
Early on in the hour, Deja told Randall that she was pregnant. And Randall was ecstatic at the news that he would be a grandfather, so he hugged her and cried. But Deja wasn’t so sure about it all. She brought up that she and her boyfriend weren’t married, she had just started her residency, and he was constantly working. When Randall asked if “he” knew she was pregnant, Deja said she hadn’t told him yet.
Later in the night, Deja texted her boyfriend a picture of her positive pregnancy test. And when everyone had gone to bed, including Deja, the mystery man arrived. He snuck into Deja’s room, and the fans finally found out that it was Malik. He said, “I ran out of the restaurant as soon as I got your text.” So perhaps Malik owns a restaurant in the future.
Malik is overjoyed to hear that Deja is pregnant in This Is Us Season 6 Episode 17. He tells her, “I have loved you since I was 16. I want to marry you. I want to have this baby with you.”
So somewhere along the line, Deja and Malik reconnected and got back together, which we’re sure will make This Is Us fans very happy.
What’s going to happen in the series finale?
A lot is unknown about the This Is Us series finale, but we’re sure that viewers will see more of Deja and Malik’s future and Randall becoming a grandparent.
Now that Rebecca is gone, the series needs to close out the Big Three’s story. And as is tradition with This Is Us, the final episode will guide viewers throughout various timelines, including the far future.
“I think we go 10 or 12 years in the future. Something like that,” star Justin Hartley told The Hollywood Reporter. “But we talk about the future after that and what comes next. That’s a cool part of it.”
