Milo Ventimiglia reveals what sets ‘This Is Us’ apart from other shows in season 6 teaser

Per Deadline, the This Is Us cast reflected on their time on the show and looked ahead to the future in a promotional video for season 6. During the first look, Milo Ventimiglia got emotional as he pondered the series’ impact.

“I hope people take away from the show what we’ve all experienced,” the actor shared. “This idea of family. This Is Us truly is us. It’s ours. Like, this is ours.”

It’s a simple statement, but any This Is Us fan knows its gravity because that’s what the show is — simple yet beautiful and relatable.

Ventimiglia’s co-star, Mandy Moore, added, “It’s so wild to be a part of a show that means so much to so many people. I hope the show is remembered fondly. I hope that people find the parallels between their lives and what they’re seeing on the show. That, to me, is sort of what makes it so special.”

If fans weren’t convinced that This Is Us Season 6 will be the most emotional season yet, they should be now after hearing the cast emotionally reflect on the show.

Episode 4 of the final season is all about Jack

This Is Us Season 6 will include an episode that fills in some of the blanks in Jack’s backstory regarding his mother. During an interview with TV Insider, Milo Ventimiglia previewed episode 4 and what it was like to explore Jack’s relationship with his mother.

“I’ll be honest, it was a very difficult episode to film,” Ventimiglia revealed. “It’s an entire Jack episode — there are no other storylines in it. We haven’t known much about that relationship after Jack removed her from a bad situation [with his alcoholic father]. We get into some distance that was between them, we know how much he cared about her. I’m getting emotional thinking about it.”

He continued, “It’s interesting to discover what Jack’s emotional break looks like, being the guy who’s the rock. In the end, it was very cathartic and satisfying. But, man, did it hurt.”

“I approached this the same way I did Jack and his alcoholism,” the actor said. “Still, to this day, one of my favorite scenes of the show was [in Season 2] when Jack tells teen Kate that he has a drinking problem. Sitting there having a very simple conversation that was just so heartbreaking to him. [Pauses.] I’m getting emotional again.”

Going off of Ventimiglia’s comments, it’s likely that the audience will need to stock up on tissues for This Is Us Season 6 Episode 4.

Episode 1 of This Is Us Season 6 features a flashback to 1986 to the day of the Challenger disaster, when the Big Three were only five years old. In his interview with TV Insider, Milo Ventimiglia previewed the premiere and talked about how Jack and Rebecca will help their kids process the tragedy.

“That trauma had a great impact on all of them,” he shared. “I mean, in the pilot, older Kevin says that things [started going wrong for him] with the Challenger explosion. They’re different kids, and they experience it in their own unique ways. Everything is always about how it relates to their adult lives.”
