‘This Is Us’ Season 6: Viewers Suspect Cassidy Is Kevin’s Relationship Endgame
As the trilogy of The Big Three continues on NBC’s This Is Us, viewers suspect that one woman appears to have quietly captured Kevin Pearson’s (Justin Hartley) heart as season 6 reaches its halfway mark. Although the eligible Pearson sibling has romanced many a woman, he may want the one that will pose the most challenge. Fans suspect Cassidy Sharp (Jennifer Morrison) will be Kevin’s relationship endgame.
The evolution of Cassidy and Kevin’s relationship
Kevin met Marine veteran Cassidy Sharp at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in season 4. Cassidy, Kevin, and his Uncle Nicky (Griffin Dunne) made quite a trio, laughing at Kevin’s remarks during the session. Their friendship evolved, but nothing further developed between them other than a friendship after a one-night stand.
After an evening where he doubted his professional and personal future, Kevin texted Cassidy. She wanted to know why he reached out to her. His reply was surprising.
“Because I’m sleeping on my sister’s couch, even though I have enough money to buy a big, fancy house. Cassidy, I was about to call my 25-year-old co-star who plays my stepdaughter for a booty call. You live across the country and were born before Y2K. I figured you were the better option,” Kevin admitted.
This exchange set a course of friendship for the twosome, which deepened after Kevin hired Cassidy to oversee the building of the new Pearson family cabin alongside Nicky. Kevin learned just how much Cassidy meant to him after she sustained serious injuries in an automobile accident.
Haunted by the horrors of the war and ravaged by a perpetual lack of sleep, an exhausted Cassidy drove her car directly into a pole. Nicky instructed Kevin to be quiet and be there for Cassidy.
Viewers suspect Cassidy is Kevin’s romantic endgame
In a Reddit thread titled “Cassidy and Kevin,” fans weighed in on Cassidy being the woman for Kevin.
“The Kevin and Cassidy relationship is an important story arc for so many reasons. I think Kevin and Cassidy are platonic friends, which is beautiful. They are also colleagues in his business. Cassidy is the closest thing Nicky has to a daughter. My opinion is that Kevin and Cassidy may be the romantic end game, but they also shouldn’t be from a plot perspective,” wrote one follower on Reddit.
“The way I look at it, Cassidy had an arc separate from the Pearsons. So, it would make sense for her to become a bigger part of the show than what she is currently. It’s possible because it seems like they were hinting it from her first appearance,” explained a second viewer.
“I would be satisfied with them ending up together. They’d be assets to each other and develop a deep partnership,” penned a third This Is Us fan.
When will viewers see the couple together again?
This Is Us writer Julia Brownell told Deadline that Cassidy would continue to stick around as part of the fabric of the Pearson family.
“I will say this is not the last you see of Cassidy,” Brownell revealed. “She’ll take Kevin up on his offer to help out with the cabin and continues to be a part of Kevin and Nicky’s lives in a surprising way.
“We also wanted to be truthful to the experience of a young war veteran. Perhaps an ‘easy fairy tale romance with handsome movie star heals everything’ might be an oversimplification for Cassidy, who we have all cared to create and love so much,” Brownwell concluded.
