‘This Is Us’ Spoilers: Creator Dan Fogelman Teases Season 6 Will Continue to Focus on the ‘Small, Simple Stuff’
Dan Fogelman, the creator of NBC’s This Is Us, teased new tidbits of information regarding season 6 of the NBC series. He claimed that along with some significant storylines, the series would continue to focus on the “small, simple stuff” that fans have come to love in the story of the Pearson family. This focus was quite apparent during the season premiere titled “The Challenger” when it was the small life lessons absorbed by the clan that began a shift which will play out for the remainder of season.
Season 6 will be the swan song of ‘This Is Us’
For five seasons, viewers have come to know and love the Pearson clan whose members include Rebecca, Jack, Kevin, Kate, and Randall.
Most importantly, the series follows three generations of the same family across separate timelines as they deal with life love, and loss.
Chrissy Metz, who plays Kate said there’s a lot of “closure” and “new beginnings” this season to Entertainment Weekly.
“There will be a lot of things tied up — beginnings and endings, maybe of people’s lives and relationships,” says Metz. However, “there’s already heightened emotion because it’s the last season, so I definitely think it will be the most emotional. But also there’s going to be a lot of contentment,” the actress explained.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Fogelman said the series will keep its focus on family.
“The show was always about the small and simple stuff that comes with being part of a family,” said Fogelman of the series arc.
However, “more than ever we were able to go back towards that very beginning. Sit in the really small, simple stuff that’s hopefully very relatable and that everyone can see a part of themselves reflected in,” he explained.
“That was intentional. To get back to this very intimate, small place at the end that is laced with nostalgia. For the past of these characters and the show, and just the simplicity of it all,” he concluded.
Who will the next episode of ‘This Is Us’ feature?
The next episode of This Is Us will continue Nicky’s (Griffin Dunne) storyline.
After a tease into his past during season 5, Nicky will look for his beloved former girlfriend Sally.
The episode titled “One Giant Leap” will feature Nicky, Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Miguel (Jon Huertas) traveling to meet Sally. Likewise, this will be the first time they’ve seen one another since going their separate ways in 1969.
Moreover, the episode will piggyback on Nicky’s first backstory titled “One Small Step.”
Therefore, there is no guarantee Nicky and Sally end up together. However, the character is wearing a wedding ring in a flash-forward episode from season 3.
