‘This Is Us’ Season 6 is new tonight, April 12

Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait long to see the conclusion of the Kate and Toby breakup. This Is Us Season 6 Episode 12, “Katoby,” premieres tonight, April 12.

Showrunners Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker co-wrote the hour, and Ken Olin directed it. The synopsis for “Katoby” reads, “Kate and Toby’s relationship evolves over a few years.”

The episode is not only important because it highlights the separation of Kate and Toby but also because it is the show’s 100th episode. Not many series can say they produced 100 hours of television, so fans should expect an extra special This Is Us episode tonight.

Kate and Toby reached a breaking point in episode 11

Kate and Toby’s relationship will end in tonight’s This Is Us episode, but their breakup has been foreshadowed for a long time now. During a five-year flash-forward in the season 5 finale, the show revealed that the couple would divorce and Kate would marry Phillip. And in the series’s final season, Kate and Toby have slowly but surely grown apart.

Toby’s job in San Francisco forced the couple to grow distant physically, but it also highlighted how much they have both changed over the years. Toby grew more mature and confident, and Kate finally accepted herself and found a job she loved. And unfortunately, Toby wants their family to move to San Francisco, while Kate wants to stay in Los Angeles.

The tension in their relationship reached its boiling point in This Is Us Season 6 Episode 11 when Jack went missing. Thankfully, Rebecca came to the rescue and found her grandson, but the damage had already been done. Kate and Toby had a massive fight as they blamed one another for what happened to Jack. And eventually, the argument took a turn for the worst when they dived deep into their issues.

Kate and Toby said things that would be hard for them to take back. And as viewers know, they won’t be able to fix their problems. So buckle up, This Is Us fans, because tonight’s episode will be heartbreaking.

She said, “I don’t want to say, ‘Bring out the tissues,’ because it’s not special enough for how special this episode is going to be. I’d say, ‘Get a beach towel instead of a box of tissues.'”

Elizabeth Berger added, “We’re going to see the final chapter of the Kate and Toby love story, and we’re also going to see some real exciting, beautiful new chapters beginning as well — all in one episode.”

“This was something entirely different for us in terms of the way time is moving in this episode,” she revealed. “I’m massively impressed with anybody that follows along with the entire thing.
