Avengers: Endgame was the end of the road for many of the original Marvel Avengers, but Thor wasn’t one of them.

Taika Waititi is returning to write and direct the fourth Thor movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Marvel fans are expecting quite a bit from it. Currently, not much is known about the movie, but elsewhere in the MCU, chess pieces are falling into place that may allow Agents of SHIELD to truly join the MCU through Thor: Love and Thunder.

While the show is part of the MCU, there’s some debate about how connected the show truly is with the MCU, since the movies rarely mention events in the show.

But, with the next Thor movie, Marvel can do just that by name-dropping Phil Coulson.

A recap of ‘Agents of SHIELD’

Before Marvel decided to go all-in on Marvel TV shows via Disney+, Agents of SHIELD was the biggest TV show in the MCU. The show recently ended after seven seasons, and there’s a lot to unpack. After being killed by Loki in The Avengers, Nick Fury revives Phil Coulson in the first season of Agents of SHIELD. A lot happens afterwards, but Coulson eventually died again.

That said, Coulson eventually comes back again, but this time he’s a robot. While Coulson is a robot, he is a very advanced robot that has all of Coulson’s memories. He helps the other agents save the world in the final season of the show, and afterwards, he gets a chance to explore the world as well as himself.

That’s where the show ends, but that may not be the end of Coulson’s story.

How ‘Thor’ connects with ‘Agents of SHIELD’

Like Marvel fans on Reddit talked about, Sif, who was in the first two Thor movies, actually had a major role in Agents of SHIELD. She appeared in a handful of episodes and she helped the SHIELD agents in their time of need.

Sif was also played by the same actress in both the movies and the show, and this fact lends credence to the idea that the show and the MCU are very connected.

That being said, due to some scheduling conflicts, Jaimie Alexander, the actress who plays Sif, couldn’t film for Thor: RagnarokAvengers: Infinity War, or Avengers: Endgame.

However, as MCU fans said, Sif is definitely still alive in the MCU and in fact, she’ll probably have a role in Loki. But, while Marvel fans are happy that she’s still in the MCU, Marvel fans also want her to be the bridge between Agents of SHIELD and the MCU via the next Thor movie.

Since Sif has definitely met and interacted with Coulson despite his first death, fans think that she could easily be the person to tell Thor that Coulson is in fact alive.

Like one fan said on Reddit, “I’d be so satisfied if Sif told Thor that his old buddy Phil Coulson wasn’t quite murdered by Loki after all, and that Phil’s currently having a great time gallivanting around the world. Sort of. It’s complicated. But regardless, don’t you think that would relieve Thor of at least some of the guilt he’s been carrying around all these years? I sure do.”

Other Marvel fans think that Alexander can easily fly to Australia, where Marvel is shooting Thor: Love and Thunder, after she finishes filming in Atlanta.

However, there’s no indication that Sif will actually be returning in Thor: Love and Thunder, but some Marvel fans are simply desperate for that to happen as it could help build on Thor’s story and, at the same time, connect Agents of SHIELD with the MCU again.
