Tiffany Haddish Is Fluent in Male Strip Clubs, Says Co-Star Chris Hemsworth
Some film roles fall into the perfect hands. We can’t think of The Godfather with anyone but Marlon Brando playing Don Corleone, or anyone other than Will Ferrell playing Ron Burgundy in Anchorman.
Chances are good that the same thing will happen with Chris Hemsworth in an upcoming movie he’ll soon be filming with Tiffany Haddish, where Hemsworth plays a male stripper. Hemsworth recently spoke with Ellen DeGeneres about the movie’s premise and told her all about how his co-star Haddish has opened up about being an expert in male stripping.
Tiffany Haddish has had a great few years
Haddish has been in show business since 2005, but had her breakout in 2017 in the comedy Girls Trip, starring alongside Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Regina Hall. Before that, Haddish mainly just performed in guest roles in various TV comedies. But ever since 2017, Haddish has been practically a household name.
Later that year, Haddish released a comedy special on Showtime called Tiffany Haddish: She Ready! From the Hood to Hollywood. Shortly after that, she hosted Saturday Night Live and released her memoir, The Last Black Unicorn. In 2019, Haddish did voice-over work for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part and Netflix’s Tuca & Bertie. 2020 saw her starring in the comedy Like a Boss. It’s safe to say Haddish has stayed busy over the past few years.
Chris Hemsworth has a well-known career
Hemsworth had a much different start to his career than Haddish. Starting in 2004, Hemsworth starred in 171 episodes of Home and Away, an Australian soap opera.
From there, Hemsworth decided that he wouldn’t be taken seriously enough in the film industry if he stuck with soap operas, so he left the cast in 2007. In 2009, Hemsworth had a small role in the opening sequence of J.J. Abrams’s Star Trek, which brought him his first international recognition.
In 2011, Hemsworth was cast in the title role in Thor, a Marvel Cinematic Universe box-office hit. That role is certainly the one which brought Hemsworth the majority of his fame; he has since gone on to star in eight MCU movies.
Action seems to be the genre that most people want to see Hemsworth in, but he has branched out and taken roles in almost every other genre as well. Joining in on a comedy seems like something that’s right up his alley.
Tiffany Haddish and Chris Hemsworth are filming a buddy cop movie
Hemsworth recently spoke with Ellen DeGeneres via webcam while she films episodes of Ellen at her home under quarantine. Hemsworth explained that his character will be a police officer who goes undercover as a stripper and Haddish’s character plays his partner, who goes undercover as his pimp.
DeGeneres joked that it seemed to be a role Hemsworth was made to play and he agreed, saying that it was a role he’d been waiting for his whole life.
Hemsworth went on to say that Haddish came with a surprising amount of knowledge of male strip clubs. He said: “She immediately ripped the script apart and said, ‘No, this would never happen…’ Let me tell you about strip clubs, all right?”
Hemsworth appreciated her knowledge on the subject and DeGeneres stated that she wasn’t surprised by the information in the least.
While many things are still unknown about their upcoming film, it’s clear that it’s a comedy and that the two seem to be getting along well in working out the details of the script. We’re looking forward to seeing this pair together, whenever social distancing measure allows them to begin filming!
