Tina Knowles Pulls Back the Curtain on the Family Dynamics With Beyoncé and Blue Ivy: ‘They Tell Me to Mind My Business’
Tina Knowles has played a pivotal role in Beyoncé‘s personal life and career. The devoted mother has been an instrumental force in the singer-songwriter’s success ever since she styled the costumes and hair for Destiny’s Child in the early ’90s. Over 30 years later, Tina is synonymous with the “momager” moniker nearly as much as infamous Hollywood matriarchs like Kris Jenner. Recently, Tina pulled back the curtain on her current role in the Knowles-Carter family and why Blue Ivy and Beyoncé tell her to mind her own business.
Tina Knowles was ‘screaming’ when Beyoncé won Best Country Album
Knowles recently went on The Jennifer Hudson Show to share her role in Beyoncé’s haircare line and her reaction to those GRAMMY wins. Along the way, she divulged where her relationship stands with her 43-year-old daughter and 13-year-old granddaughter. Calling Blue Ivy the true “manager” of her famous parents, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Blue was the one who got her mom to stand up and walk to the stage when she won Best Country Album. “[Blue is] a bossy little Capricorn like her grandma,” Tina quipped.
With Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé became the first Black woman to win the accolade. The milestone challenges longstanding racial and genre boundaries within the country music sphere. The win also added to Beyoncé’s all-time list of GRAMMY Awards, which grew to 35 before the night concluded. “I was screaming too,” Tina told Jennifer Hudson. “I was at her house and I was there to help [her] and Blue get ready. I just was not expecting it. I was really, really shocked.”
While Beyoncé, Blue, and Jay-Z attended the GRAMMYs, Tina was spending time with her youngest grandchildren, 7-year-old twins Rumi and Sir. “For a second, we were just sitting there,” the Cécred haircare vice chairperson continued. “When she did this [mimics Beyoncé’s viral shocked reaction], I said, ‘Who is real? I couldn’t believe it.'”

Hudson asked Tina the question many fans wonder: Will Blue Ivy follow in her mom’s footsteps regarding a music career? “I don’t know,” the 71-year-old stated. “Because Blue is a ‘jack of all trades’ as my mama would say. She could do so many things. We don’t know because she’s only 13.” The multitalented young woman truly is a master of many. Just entering her teen years, Blue is already the youngest individually credited Grammy Award recipient. She’s done voiceover work for The Lion King franchise and danced on her mom’s Renaissance World Tour.
Hudson pushed Tina regarding her relationship with her family, asking if Beyoncé and Blue seek her advice. Tina paused before saying, “Actually, um, her mother gives her advice.” She continued, “Her and her mother are really tight, so they don’t need me to give much advice. They tell me to mind my business, you know?” A surprising response from the momager of over three decades!
Perhaps Beyoncé and Blue have a more traditional relationship with Tina than fans think. Of course, it’s common for teenagers to ignore their parents’ and grandparents’ advice. But not everyone has a grandmother like Tina Knowles.
