One couple that had a long term relationship like this is Rashida Jones and Tobey Maguire. Though this happened before either of the two was a household name, they were both acting and coming up in the industry at this time. What happened to this relationship? Tobey Maguire started acting in the late 80s as a teenager, and throughout the 90s had several supporting roles before his first major lead in Ang Lee’s 1997 The Ice Storm. Coincidentally, this is when Rashida Jones made her major debut in the miniseries The Last Don. And, for one more coincidence, the two actually started dating in 1997!
This relationship wasn’t a short fling, but at the same time, it clearly wouldn’t stand the test of time either. The two would break up with each other in 2000, and proceed to move on with their lives. Information on the details of the relationship is hazy; the two never married and had no kids, but it’s possible that they might have been engaged during this time. The two also have not appeared together in any films, or other projects.

Since the breakup, the two have moved on. Jones started dating music producer Mark Ronson in the next few years, and in 2003, they were engaged. If it is true that Jones and Maguire were in fact engaged to be married, then there is a similarity between that relationship and this one, as Ronson and Jones ended things before they would be married.
Jones’ relationships after this are not super public, and she kept her current relationship secret for some time. In 2018, Jones revealed that not only was she dating Ezra Koenig, the lead singer of Vampire Weekend, but that the two had been dating for years, and she was expecting a son with Koenig! Though they continue to raise their son together, they still have not gotten married. Nonetheless, this relationship looks quite happy and stable, regardless of whether there is a ring or not.

Maguire entered his new relationship around the same time as Jones. In 2003, he started dating a jewelry designer by the name of Jessica Meyer. They dated each other consistently for 3 years, and in 2006 they got engaged and had a child together. In 2007, they had their wedding, and 2 years later they had a second son. This relationship would last for over a decade, but sadly, in 2016 the two announced that they were separating. After 4 more years of being married but separated, Maguire filed for divorce.
Therefore, Rashida Jones and Tobey Maguire probably is a surprising connection for all but their most dedicated fans! After all, we haven’t seen them together, and details on their relationships can be scant. Fortunately, however, the two have gone on to do great things, and to have relationships with other people.
