‘Today Show’: Dylan Dreyer is ‘Soaking in Every Second’ of Her Maternity Leave as She Preps to Return to Work
Meteorologist Dylan Dryer of the Today Show recently welcomed her third child with husband Brian Fichera. Russell “Rusty” James Fichera joined the family in October 2021, a bit ahead of his November due date. Big brothers Calvin, 5, and Oliver, 1 1/2, have been more than happy to lend a hand in keeping Rusty entertained as Dreyer’s been balancing her household and recent children’s book release. The Today star is trying to make the most of her last week of maternity leave before she heads back to the NBC news desk.
Dylan Dreyer shares events from busy maternity leave
Dreyer has called into the NBC studio a few times to share some baby updates with her Today Show co-hosts, but has been focused on time with her sons.
“Maternity leave is a blessing and I’m so appreciative for the 16 weeks I got to spend at home with my boys (although some would argue it’s not nearly enough…agreed!!),” the meteorologist posted on Instagram along with some family photos. “I’m baffled by where the time has gone… though, I realize… we squeezed A LOT in!!”
After Rusty was brought home from the NICU for being earlier than expected, Dryer’s had holiday events, some birthday celebrations, and the release of her book Misty the Cloud during her time at home.
“A successful NICU stay for little Rusty, the launch of Misty the Cloud and it making it on The NY Times Bestseller List (!!), Halloween, Thanksgiving,” she listed, “@fishlense ‘s birthday (sorry Bri, no pic!), Cal’s 5th birthday, (covid) Christmas, and Ollie’s 2nd birthday.”
‘Today Show’ star heads back to work next week
The Today Show co-anchor is enjoying her final week on maternity leave and shared her excitement for returning to work.
“I know time will keep flying by so I’m soaking in every second and loving every minute of it,” Dreyer wrote. “I’m also so lucky that I get to go back to a job I love and my kids get to see me loving what I do and working hard.”
She added that she’ll be back at the news desk on Jan. 24. “I’ve missed you all and can’t wait to be back on 3rd hour @todayshow next Monday!” she remarked.
Dylan Dreyer preps for her new schedule
As a television personality and meteorologist, travel is a big part of the gig. Dreyer expects to be hitting the road after she adjusts to being back on the job.
“When I go back, if things are sort of getting back to normal, I’ll probably go back to traveling again,” the mom of three explained, according to MSNBC. “That’s what I’m most worried about—just traveling and pumping and being on the road and leaving three kids at home. I’m kind of terrified about it.”
Dreyer praised her husband for his support of her career. “He’s always saying, ‘The lessons you’re teaching our boys by working as hard as you work will be a part of them forever,’” she remarked. “He makes me feel better and less guilty about working. I’m showing the boys that you work hard to get the things you want.”
