Tom Brady Opens Up About His Marriage to Gisele Bündchen Like Never Before
Tom Brady’s new interview with Howard Stern is shedding more light on his marriage to Gisele Bündchen. Brady and Bündchen have been married for over a decade, yet they hit a major snag in their relationship a few years back. After Bündchen confronted Brady about how she was not “satisfied” with their marriage, the NFL star told Stern that he was forced to make some big changes to save their relationship.
Brady opens up about his marriage
In his interview with Stern, Brady told listeners that they should never judge someone based on their public perceptions, especially when it comes to his wife.
According to the NY Post, Brady revealed that Bündchen is much different in real life than what most fans think. He described her as a “spiritual woman” who is nothing like the fashion model the media usually portrays her as — something that will probably surprise most of his followers.
“She’s probably very different than how people would probably see her, what’s been portrayed as a fashion model,” Tom Brady shared.
Brady added that Bündchen, with whom he shares two children, Vivian and Benjamin, is a huge believer in meditation and is always trying to “heal herself.”
Although their marriage appears perfect from the outside, Brady admitted that they hit a rough patch a few years ago that caused him to re-examine his priorities.
Tom Brady admits Bündchen was not ‘satisfied’ with their marriage
Brady explained to Stern that problems arose in his marriage after Bündchen felt like he was not pulling his own weight around the house. Bündchen thought Brady was doing too much off the field and not paying enough attention to his family, especially once the football season was over.
“There was a couple years ago, she didn’t feel I was doing my part for the family,” Brady stated. “She felt like I would play football all season and she would take care of the house, and then all the sudden when the season would end, that I’d be like, ‘Great, let me get into all my other business activities. Let me get into my football training.’”
The former Patriots quarterback revealed that he needed to “check himself” and decided a “big transition” was in order to keep his marriage healthy. One of the changes he made was not attending OTA practices and spending that time with his family.
Tom Brady then noted that what used to work between him and Bündchen no longer does and that they are both “growing in different ways.”
For Brady, he is currently going through another transition in life after signing a new deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The decision comes after Brady spent 20 years as the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots.
What about Brady’s relationship with Donald Trump?
Aside from his marriage, Brady also discussed his controversial relationship with Donald Trump. Brady and Trump became friends long before he was won the 2016 election, and the quarterback does his best to avoid talking about their friendship in public.
While there is no denying that they are friends, Brady has been very hesitant to back Trump’s political agenda. This is one reason why Brady turned down an offer to speak at the Republican National Convention in 2016.
“Well, he wanted me to speak at that convention too, and I wasn’t going to do anything political,” Tom Brady explained.
Trump and Brady met way back in 2001 after the billionaire watched Brady’s games and became a fan. Although Brady acknowledged that Trump has a way with people, he confessed that the political aspect of their friendship has made him “uncomfortable” at times.
“But the whole political aspect came, and I got brought into a lot of those things because it was so polarizing around the election time. It was uncomfortable to me,” he said. “You can’t undo things — not that I would undo a friendship — but the political support is totally different than the support of a friend.”
Brady’s connection to Trump made headlines after reporters spotted a “Make America Great Again” cap in his locker. The hat led to questions about their friendship, which Brady refused to elaborate on.
Tom Brady reflects on his relationship with Bill Belichick
Trump, of course, is likely the last thing on Brady’s mind as he gets ready for a fresh start with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In his interview with Stern, Brady opened up about his long-time relationship with his former head coach, Bill Belichick.
Brady revealed that he does not like it when people argue that he would not have won as many Super Bowls without Belichick by his side. For Brady, they both played an equal part in the team’s success over the years.
“I think it’s a pretty s—ty argument actually that people would say that, because again, I can’t do his job, and he can’t do mine,” Brady shared. “So the fact you could say, ‘Would I be successful without him, the same level of success?’ I don’t believe I would have been. But I feel the same vice versa, as well.”
Tom Brady also holds no resentment towards Belichick and his former team. In fact, he told the owner of the Patriots, Robert Kraft, about his decision to leave the team at his home. Brady confessed that the meeting was very emotional and left them in tears.
