Tom Hiddleston Said Filming ‘Loki’ During the Pandemic Was the ‘Most Intense’ Experience of His Life
Tom Hiddleston has played the same character, Loki, for over 10 years, but none of his past experiences compare to his work on Marvel’s upcoming TV series Loki. He first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2011 when he starred in Thor and has supporting roles in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic took the world by storm in 2020 and halted production on many films and TV shows that studios had slated for release in 2021. However, Marvel was able to work through pandemic restrictions and filmed the entire season of Loki in late 2020.
Looking back on the experience, Hiddleston recently admitted that working on Loki during the pandemic was the most intense experience of his life.

Hiddleston shared his feelings about working on Loki during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.
“It will remain one of the absolute most intense, most rewarding experiences of my life,” he said. “It’s a series about time, and the value of time, and what time is worth, and I suppose what the experience of being alive is worth.”
When asked if working on the show during a pandemic affected the outcome of the performances, Hiddleston had an interesting response.
“I don’t quite know yet, and maybe I don’t have perspective on it, if all the thinking and the reflecting that we did during the lockdown ended up in the series,” he said. “But in some way, it must have because everything we make is a snapshot of where we were in our lives at that time.”
He never expected Loki to get his own show
Despite the difficulties that arose while filming Loki, Hiddleston is grateful that his character finally has his own show. Back in 2018 when he found out he’d be getting one, he couldn’t believe it.
“I probably should not have been surprised, but I was,” says the actor. “But only because Infinity War had felt so final.”
Tom Hiddleston is excited for fans to see all of his hard work on ‘Loki’
Now that Hiddleston is on the other side of production, he can’t wait for fans to see how differently Loki will be portrayed in comparison to previous Marvel films. He claims that fans have never seen Loki as they will in the coming weeks.
“I love this idea [of] Loki’s chaotic energy somehow being something we need. Even though, for all sorts of reasons, you don’t know whether you can trust him. You don’t know whether he’s going to betray you. You don’t why he’s doing what he’s doing,” Hiddleston said. “If he’s shapeshifting so often, does he even know who he is? And is he even interested in understanding who he is? Underneath all those masks, underneath the charm and the wit, which is kind of a defense anyway, does Loki have an authentic self? Is he introspective enough or brave enough to find out? I think all of those ideas are all in the series — ideas about identity, ideas about self-knowledge, self-acceptance, and the difficulty of it.”
Loki premieres on June 9 on Disney+.
