Tom Holland Reveals He Wants to ‘Focus on Starting a Family’ When Discussing His Future Beyond ‘Spider-Man’
We all like our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man; however, we love Tom Holland. He’s been the bleeding heart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in previous box office hits, and he’s done it again in his latest (and probably last) Spider-Man move, Spider-Man: No Way Home. So, where does Tom Holland’s A-lister career go from here, and what is this we’re hearing about his wanting to start a family?
Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man’ have been a huge success
In the 20 years since Spider-Man graced our screens, we’ve had the pleasure of seeing three different iterations of the web-slinging hero. It all began with 2002’s Sam Raimi trilogy that had everyone’s favorite New Yorker played by Tobey Maguire and his love interest MJ (Mary Jane) played by Kirsten Dunst.
A subsequent reboot had Andrew Garfield playing Spider-Man. Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy was his love interest in this Spider-verse. Tom Holland then made his Spidey debut after the Garfield-led duology ended. The world first saw their new Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War.
Holland charmed us all with his youthful brand of quip and peppiness. His mentor-mentee relationship with Iron Man was seen until the genius billionaire’s death in Avengers: Endgame. After becoming a fan favorite, he unsurprisingly reprised his role in three standalone films.
2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming was his first solo outing as Spidey, and he earned a whopping $880 million. He broke the record for the highest-grossing Spider-Man movie in 2019 with Spider-Man: Far from Home by making over $1.1 billion. According to Variety, Spider-Man: No Way Home, has Sony and Marvel’s executives smiling, having made $750 million globally and $328 million in the U.S.
Tom Holland said he’s looking forward to starting a family
While Maguire’s Spider-Man was iconic and Garfield’s sensitive, Holland’s rendition of the hero is the most lovable, according to many fans. However, for whatever reason, all good things eventually come to an end. And recently, Tom Holland mentioned he wants to start a family.
“I’ve spent the last six years being so focused on my career,” Holland told People in December 2021. “I want to take a break and focus on starting a family and figuring out what I want to do outside of this world.”
He continued, “I love kids; I can’t wait to be a dad — I can wait, and I will, but I can’t wait!”
It’s not that he doesn’t love being Spidey. He’s very grateful for the opportunity, and while he loves playing the character, he’s ready to leave the web-shooters behind. Holland reveals that he doesn’t want to gate-keep another young actor’s moment.
He specifically said he’d want the Spider-verse to be more diversified in the future. As there have been three Spider-Mans so far, he’d love to see a Spider-Woman or a Spider-Gwen.
Zendaya has her very own Spider-Man
If you look up “Tom Zendaya” on Google, you’ll probably find “Tom Zendaya wedding” or “Tom Zendaya engaged” in your search suggestions. Not only are these two co-stars a couple, but their relationship has also had fans gushing all over social media.
Fans have been speculating that the two have been dating for years. It’s been kind of an open secret, but it wasn’t until July 2021, two years after they denied being together, that they were photographed snogging (as Holland would put it) at a red light in Los Angeles.
Yet, while Zendaya cares for Holland, she isn’t quite at the be-all and end-all stage that is marrying and having kids. According to Hollywood Life, while she is in love with the Spider-Man actor, she’s not ready to have kids just yet, but she’s not given up on the idea of marriage someday.
