Tom Holland Talks Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield Cameos in ‘Spider-Man 3’
Spider-Man 3 is one of Marvel‘s most anticipated movies. Beyond its obvious appeal, much of the hype has to do with rumors that previous Spider-Man stars Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would appear in the upcoming film. Asked about the possible cameos, Tom Holland has once again denied that Maguire and Garfield will join him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
There’s been plenty of speculation about the cast of ‘Spider-Man 3’
For months, rumors have swirled about the film and its cast. Collider reported in late 2020 that the plan was for Maguire and Garfield to appear in the movie along with Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Jamie Foxx’s Electro. The latter has since been confirmed for the film, but Maguire and Garfield have not.
Addressing those rumors, Holland told Esquire in an interview published in February that as far as he knows the former actors won’t be in the forthcoming movie.
“No, no, they will not be appearing in this film,” Holland said. “Unless they have hidden the most massive piece of information from me, which I think is too big of a secret for them to keep from me. But as of yet, no. It’ll be a continuation of the Spider-Man movies that we’ve been making.”
As the rumors continue, Tom Holland once again addressed the possible cameos
Appearing on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon on Feb. 23, Holland was asked another time about whether Maguire and Garfield will appear in Spider-Man 3. He explained to Fallon that he’s read the entire script and that there are no plotlines whatsoever involving the past web slingers.
“It would be amazing if they were because they [meaning Marvel] haven’t told me that yet, and I am Spider-Man and I’ve read the script from the beginning to the end,” he said. “So, it would be a miracle if they could’ve kept that from me, but at the moment there is no cameo from the two boys.”
He did, however, acknowledge that Marvel hides things from him due to his ineptitude with spoilers. “It’s actually getting to the point where it’s really frustrating because I feel like now I’ve progressed, I’m a trustworthy member of the Avengers, and I haven’t really ever spoiled anything,” he continued. “Well, there’s a few things but no big things. We’ll leave it at that.”
Despite his denial, the speculation about the possible cameos continues, with some social media users saying the different film titles could represent the multiverse. Unfortunately, though, we probably won’t know what happens until the film comes out. You can see it in theaters in December 2021.
