Actor Tom Holland recently starred in a new Marvel project over the holidays. While the movie could get an Oscar nomination, some fans wonder about his future beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Holland has played around with the idea of joining another major property.

People could have seen Holland as James Bond when he made a film pitch. However, the star did not get the opportunity to play the role. The producers rejected his idea of a different story.

Tom Holland once thought of a ‘James Bond’ plot

Holland has had experience being in action-based films by playing Peter Parker in the MCU. When he thought of his career beyond Spider-Man, the star mentioned his desire to portray James Bond. One of his co-stars explained that Holland talks about his wish often.

According to Insider, Holland once pitched his idea of becoming 007 to the producers of the property. He did so while he filmed for Spider-Man: Far From Home. Sony had the rights to the James Bond series at the time. As a result, Holland discussed his plans with the studio.

“I had a meeting… with Sony to pitch this idea of a young Bond film that I’d come up with,” Holland explained in an interview.

Holland likely thought of a movie that depicted James Bond starting his career as a heroic spy. It would have been the origin of the iconic character that people came to love over the years. Since Holland signed on for three more Spider-Man movies, he might be quite busy to join another franchise.

Fans likely will not get to see their favorite actor play James Bond any time soon. The 007 producers were not convinced about the premise of the potential narrative. Holland likely felt let down, but he understood their decision and moved on.

“It was the origin story of James Bond,” Holland said. “It didn’t really make sense. It didn’t work. It was the dream of a young kid, and I don’t think the Bond estate were particularly interested.”

Even though Holland’s pitch did not pan out, he still got to do a movie for another action-adventure hero. The James Bond origin story led to the idea of a young Nathan Drake.

Nathan Drake is the protagonist of the game Uncharted, and Holland will play him in Sony’s movie adaptation.

At the moment, one producer is not in a hurry to replace Daniel Craig. She mentioned the next actor most likely will be British. While the pitch was years ago, Holland could have a shot at the role in the future.

James Bond first appeared on the big screen in 1962 as an adaptation of one of the novels of the same name. The series has spawned over a dozen successful movies over the years. The franchise significantly influenced the spy genre. Nevertheless, its impact made its way into other areas of popular culture.

Multiple actors have played Bond, and Sean Connery was the first one to make the character a household name. He starred in a total of six films, and many fans still enjoy his performance. Another actor who portrayed Bond was Roger Moore, who was in seven movies in a row.

Younger audiences probably know Craig as Bond the best. While the actor was in fewer movies than Moore, he played the character the longest. Craig made his final appearance in the series in the most recent installment, No Time to Die

James Bond has not lost traction with fans for about 60 years. They can expect the saga to continue thriving with a fresh face.
