The 2D fighting video game by Reverge Labs and Autumn Games Skullgirls reached its 10th anniversary on April 10, 2022. Since it first came out, the game re-released as Skullgirls 2nd Encore on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and eventually Nintendo Switch. To celebrate, we took a look at the top 10 most popular Skullgirls characters, from Valentine to Filia and Cerebella and more, according to Event Hub stats.

10. ‘Skullgirls’ character Painwheel dominates the number 10 spot

With a name that’s portmanteau of the words “pain” and “pinwheel,” the girl known as Painwheel seems like she would be a brutal monster. However, she has tight control over her mind, even if she is fueled by rage for Skullgirl Valentine and Brain Drain.

She fights with “aerial dominance,” allowing players to take on opponents from the skies.

9. Fukua takes the next top 10 ‘Skullgirls’ characters spot

Fukua is a clone of a fellow fighter in Skullgirls, Filia. However, while she’s considered non-canon, that did not stop her from taking the ninth spot in the top 10 Skullgirls characters.

While Fukua and Filia have many similarities, Fukua has the unique ability to send out shadow clones.

8. Squigly serenades herself into number 8

Squigly debuted in Skullgirls Encore DLC, and while she has a non-threatening name, the undead fighter packs a deadly long-range arsenal. And descended from a line of opera singers, she uses music in her move set.

She uses her voice and sounds to attack her opponents in the form of music notes.

7. Another musical fighter, Big Band, takes number 7

The only male Skullgirls character to make the top 10 most popular Skullgirls characters (and one of the only male fighters in the series), Big Band left quite the impression. An observant detective, he also seeks to defeat Skullgirls.

Much like Squigly, music, and sound are built into his attacks and fighting style, but with a jazzy twist.

6. Peacock barely misses the top half of the top 10 ‘Skullgirls’ characters

Peacock fights with plenty of cartoon-ish gags, except her giant bombs do more damage than the Looney Tunes brand. Incredibly competitive, she fights with a physics-bending arsenal. Flower pots, baseballs, bowling balls, exploding toy cars, anything is on the table for this fighter.

5. Ms. Fortune closes the gap between the top and bottom 5 ‘Skullgirls fighters

Wisecracking Ms. Fortune breaks into number five of the top 10 Skullgirls characters. With a love for puns and punishment, she’s the last surviving member of the Fishbone Gang. Players can quickly close the distance between Ms. Fortune and her opponents, taking them head-on in melee battles.

4. Parasoul leads the top 4 ‘Skullgirls’ characters

When it comes to Skullgirls, Parasoul knows the destructive power they wield better than most. Her mother almost destroyed the world and made Parasoul a protective person. A natural-born leader, Parasoul also acts as the princess of the Canopy Kingdom.

In Skullgirls gameplay, Parasoul uses plenty of ranged attacks to keep opponents at bay.

3. Cerebella is a great grapple-style fighter

When creating Skullgirls, Cerebella was one of the first fighters designed. Flashy and hungry for attention, Cerebella worked as a circus performer. She uses the living-weapon Vice Versa, a pair of monstrous arms from the top of her head.

It also makes her a perfect character for players that prefer a grappling style.

2. Filia misses the number 1 spot

In Skullgirls, Filia has a beastly parasite named Samson. She used to be a normal girl, but after tragically losing her parents and getting wounded herself, Samson saved her. And this bond also gave Filia a unique fighting style that players love.

Samson attacks at a distance with long tentacles with sharp razor-like ends.

1. Valentine sits at number 1 of the top 10 ‘Skullgirls’ characters

In Skullgirls, Valentine remains a more mysterious fighter. However, she often stands as a major villain. She fights with various hospital-themed weapons and controls like a classic ninja. However, her main weapon is a massive bone saw to inflict damage.

Even a decade after the first Skullgirls game released, fans are still finding new favorite characters.
