False reports that Tory Lanez were charges dropped

Initially, Tory Lanez — real name Daystar Peterson — was scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 20, after rescheduling the original hearing from fall 2020. However, various reports began circulating online that the charges were dropped after certain outlets supposedly checked the Los Angeles Superior Court’s website.

It is not true. According to Megan Thee Stallion, the date was postponed due to the presidential inauguration on Jan. 20. This information was later confirmed via New York Times reporter Joe Coscarelli who verified the fact with Tory Lanez’s legal team. The new court date is in February.

Megan Thee Stallion attacked online, defends herself

With the erroneous information floating around the internet, some Twitter users took it as a sign that Megan Thee Stallion didn’t have a legitimate case or refused to testify. They started flooding her with comments, and she bit back with a series of tweets that were aimed at Tory Lanez and her detractors.

In one, she wrote, “Y’all can’t tell when sh*t fake news? Y’all still don’t see an ABUSER picking with me? The first court date got pushed back bc of the inauguration but I can’t wait until the MF FACTS come out ! B*tch you shot me AND MY STORY NOT CHANGING AND B*TCH YOU GOING TO JAIL.”

Megan also warned that those who are cynics will be eating their words in due time. She reiterated that she’s over people thinking she’s not telling the truth about being shot and turning her trauma into a mockery.

“AT THIS POINT IM GETTING ANNOYED ! STOP BELIEVING EVERYTHING YOU READ ON THE MF INTERNET. Imagine how I feel waking every day seeing people LIE and turn my trauma into a joke? That whole team figures out ways to create doubt with my story every week and the media eats it up,” read another of Megan Thee Stallion’s messages.

The “Savage” rapper’s former friend Kelsey Nicole was also dragged into it by social media users and she posted a subliminal shot on Instagram.

Tory Lanez posted his own message

While 2020 saw Tory Lanez drop an entire album about his relationship with Megan Thee Stallion and his pending court case, he’s still aware of the social media chatter. He did not address the confusion about the criminal charges and conflicting media reports, but he did issue a tweet stating his focus for 2021.

In October, the Los Angeles District Attorney hit Lanez with a felony assault charge in addition to a charge for carrying a loaded unregistered firearm. The shooting incident happened in July 2020 and Megan Thee Stallion has maintained that Tory Lanez is the person who shot her. He claims to be innocent.
