Travis Kelce is ‘not ready to retire’ after Super Bowl 2025, a source says
Kansas City Chiefs fans rejoice as the NFL team heads to the Super Bowl for the third straight year. Travis Kelce was known as the Chiefs’ tight end before he and Taylor Swift began dating in 2023. Now, he’s attained more fame than ever thanks to Swift. Kelce started leaping into the entertainment business in 2024 and will likely continue this path with his newfound connections. However, that doesn’t mean he plans on leaving the NFL behind.
“When it comes to his success in acting and podcasting and seeing the opportunities his brother [Jason] has had after his retirement, Travis is not ready to retire himself,” an insider told DailyMail.com ahead of Super Bowl LIX. “Whether the Chiefs win or lose, he would want to either go for the four-peat or avenge losing in the Super Bowl and would love to try to get back there.”
The insider noted that Kelce feels he “still has more to give” in his NFL career and knows his potential retirement will be a hot topic.
“Ask the same question next year, then we might have a conversation,” the source continued, “but right now, all his intentions are to stay with the Chiefs and play in the NFL next season whether they win or lose the Super Bowl.”
When Kelce inevitably retires, the source explained that he plans to focus on starting a family.
Patrick Mahomes commented on the possibility of Travis Kelce retiring
What does Travis Kelce’s teammate and friend, Patrick Mahomes, know about Kelce’s potential retirement? The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback told Kansas City’s 96.5 FM that he has “no idea” about Kelce’s future plans.
“He hasn’t said anything to me if he’s thinking that,” Mahomes explained. The quarterback also noted that Kelce signed a two-year extension before the current season, keeping him in the NFL for awhile longer. However, Mahomes knows Kelce “has a great life” outside of football and would have no problem continuing his path with his other endeavors.
“Either way, I just appreciate every single time I step on the field with that guy, knowing he’s a true legend of not only the Chiefs, but the NFL,” Mahomes continued. “If it’s his last game, let’s go out there and get him a win. If it’s not his last game, let’s go out and win anyways.”
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end says he can’t ‘fathom’ feeling ‘satisfied’ enough to quit the NFL
Travis Kelce spoke to Stephen A. Smith about his future with the NFL. According to Kelce, he can’t imagine feeling finished with football just yet.
“I’m so deep in chasing this one right now, I can’t even fathom what football would be like, like, not playing football, as a profession,” Kelce admitted. “I still love coming into the building every single day. Does it get hard? Yeah. But, I’m not doing it for the stats. I’m doing it for the greatness, the legacy that we’ve created here in Kansas City …. I can’t fathom what it would feel like being able to say that I’m satisfied because I’m still hungry to go and get something right now.”
