What Travis Kelce’s Mom, Donna, Said About Him and Taylor Swift Being Alike
Initially, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, the couple who have taken the world by storm since first being romantically linked in 2023, may appear to have nothing in common. She is, after all, an award-winning musician, and he’s a Super Bowl champion. However, according to Kelce’s mother, Donna Kelce, the two do indeed share some of the same traits.

Donna sat down with Martha Stewart for the Mother’s Day episode of The Martha Stewart Podcast in May 2024. One of the topics they discussed was, unsurprisingly, her 34-year-old son’s relationship with Swift.
At one point, she listed off a few traits the Kansas City Chiefs tight end and “Down Bad” singer share. “They’re both friendly,” Kelce’s 71-year-old mother said. “They’re both generous, they’re both loving, they’re both caring individuals.”
Kelce himself previously told WSJ in a November 2023 interview that one of the “values” he and Swift share is keeping family close. “Her team is her family,” he told the publication. “Her family does a lot of stuff in terms of the tour, the marketing, being around. So I think she has a lot of those values as well, which is right up my alley.”

While Kelce’s a big Swiftie—he’s known to enjoy Swift’s “1989” album and her “Blank Space” track in particular—his mom didn’t consider herself a fan until after meeting the Grammy winner.
“I would say not,” she told People when asked if she categorized herself as a Swiftie. “My era was Earth, Wind and Fire, Chaka Khan, [and] things like that,” she explained. “That’s more my music. But obviously, talent is talent.”
She may, however, have a different answer after listening to Swift’s latest (double) album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” the day it was released in April 2024. It does, after all, include two tracks thought to be about Kelce, “So High School” and “The Alchemy.”
“I listened to the whole album,” she told the outlet at the time, not saying whether or not it included all 31 tracks or just the initial 16.
She “listened to it all morning long when it was released” and “was just very impressed.” Calling Swift a “very talented woman,” Kelce’s mom called the album “probably her best work.”

As for the engagement rumors that have, like many celebrity couples before them, followed Swift and Kelce practically since they started dating in the summer of 2023, the matriarch of the Kelce family said it probably wouldn’t happen without her getting a call.
“It’s totally up to them, them being happy,” she told CNN in early 2024. “We don’t know anything for right now. I’m sure he would call me up and tell me, and I haven’t heard anything yet. That’s all you want for your children is happiness. Nothing else matters.”
For now, it seems Swift and Kelce are still in boyfriend-girlfriend territory. (Neither has ever been engaged publicly.) At the 2024 MTV VMAs, the “Fortnight” singer thanked her “boyfriend, Travis” for bringing his own “magic” to the set of the music video by “cheering” her—and the crew—on behind the scenes (via MTV).
