It looks like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce aren’t headed toward marriage anytime soon. (Sorry, Swifties!) Why? Because the NFL player’s mom says that their relationship is, despite a year of dating, “really new.” What she said about their family’s meeting, ahead.

Donna Kelce on Travis and Taylor’s relationship: ‘It’s still really, really new’ 

According to Kelce’s mom, Donna Kelce, things are still “new” for him and Swift as far as their relationship is concerned. “It’s still really, really new, and I really appreciate it,” the 71-year-old told Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of Grotesquerie, in which her son stars. 

Swift and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end started dating in the summer of 2023. Since then, their highly publicized romance has included Chiefs games with her cheering him on, and vice versa at Swift’s concerts. 

The Swift and Kelce families getting to know each other has been a “nice” experience, according to Kelce’s mom. “Wonderful people, very down to Earth, very Midwestern,” she said. “Ohio and Pennsylvania are right next to each other, so we kind of understand each other, so it’s really kind of nice. It feels like home.” (The Kelce family hails from Ohio and the Swifts, Pennsylvania.) 

“I just think it’s important to support the people you really care about. I think that was very, very helpful,” she added.

Travis and Taylor are said to be ‘so in tune’ with each other 

Although the relationship might be “really new” to Kelce’s mom, he and Swift are, an insider told Us Weekly over the summer, very comfortable together. “A year [into their relationship] there is such an ease between them,” the source said at the time. “It seems like they’ve been together longer because they are so in tune.”

Another described this as the “easy era” of Kelce and Swift’s relationship. “They have daily FaceTimes when they’re apart and send cute texts to each other.” The engagement and marriage talk may be just that—talk—but Swift is said to see a future for her and the Super Bowl winner. 

“Nobody has ever made Taylor feel this way,” a source said. “Taylor and Travis bring out the best in each other and lift each other up. She absolutely sees this going the distance.”

Taylor Swift wasn’t at the Sept. 22 Chiefs game 

Swift wasn’t in the crowd rooting for Kelce and the Chiefs at the team’s first away game of the season against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 22. It marked the first game of the 2024-25 season she’s missed after watching the first two at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. 

The night before Swift and Gigi Hadid were spotted together in New York City. The two longtime friends reportedly spent two hours at The Corner Store having dinner (via Page Six). 

Us Weekly previously reported Swift wanted to go to as many Chiefs games as possible during her break from touring. (Shows resume Oct. 18, 2024, in Miami, Florida.)  

“Taylor has come to love football and is really excited the season is back,” an insider said. “She’s loved being around the football community. It’s a reprieve from work for her, and Travis is excited she’s fully ingrained in his world.” 

The Chiefs head to California next to take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 29. Fans will have to wait and see what Swift’s gameday plans are. She’ll have another opportunity to attend one last game of Travis’ before touring resumes when the Chiefs play the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 7, 2024.
