Kansas City Chiefs Star Travis Kelce Talks Crashing Weddings, Fashion Shows, and the Upcoming NFL Season
We all know Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce is a force on the gridiron who has been giving defenses fits for years. But off the field, one of the best tight ends in the game loves connecting with the community and recently helped create some unforgettable moments for two Chiefs superfans.
Showbiz Cheat Sheet caught up with Kelce to talk about being drafted into the wedding party of one lucky couple, his Walk the Walk Fashion Benefit, and of course the upcoming NFL season. See his killer dance moves and find out how many games he thinks the Chiefs will win in the 2019 season.
Kelce makes sure no one forgets this wedding
On June 29, 2019, Kelce attended the wedding of Matt and Taylor Hubbard. The pair won the NFL 100 Experience of a Lifetime Contest and their prize included having the Chiefs star join in their wedding party and celebrate the day with them.
“It was absolutely unbelievable,” Kelce said about sharing in the Hubbard’s special day. “Matt and Taylor’s families were die-hard Chiefs fans … It was such a cool experience … I got to have the first hug. As soon as they kissed on stage and then they walked down the aisle I greeted them right there, and I got the first hug. I think that’s something that I’ll definitely remember for the rest of my life.”
The ceremony took place at the Madrid Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri, and the NFL star took part in everything from helping the couple cut the cake to showing off his moves with the rest of the family on the dancefloor.
So what was his favorite part of the night?
Kelce revealed that it wasn’t only greeting them but also “giving Grandma Donna the gold football, the gold 100 Year Experience Football.”
Donna has been a Chiefs season ticket holder since 1963 and Kelce explained that it was “signed and made out to her thanking her for all her support over the years.”
From the football field to the runway
Kelce plays at Arrowhead and is hitting up weddings in Kansas City but he’s also finding ways to give back to his hometown. On July 19, Kelce participated in the Walk the Walk Fashion Benefit in Cleveland, Ohio.
“[The event] benefits my foundation Eighty-Seven & Running, which helps out disadvantaged kids,” he said.
“I’ve been doing this Walk the Walk Fashion Benefit for the past three years and I’ll be doing it again during the season this year,” Kelce continued before adding, “but I wanted to make sure that I got back into my hometown and started to help out around the city and the community around there knowing how much love I have for the city of Cleveland.”
His prediction for how many games the Chiefs will win in 2019
As for the upcoming NFL season, Kelce knows expectations for the Chiefs are high following quarterback Patrick Mahomes‘ sensational first year and the team going so deep into the playoffs. He spoke about what he’s looking forward to the most and made a bold prediction.
“We got a lot of new guys on defense and an entirely new coaching staff on the defensive side so finding our new identity as a whole team is what I’m looking forward to the most,” he said.
So how many games are the Chiefs going to win this season? According to Kelce, all of them.
“We plan on winning all of them,” he declared. “I’m gonna say every last game we play we’re gonna win.”
Kelce’s brother, Jason, plays center for the Philadelphia Eagles and he admitted there’s always been a little friendly competition between them.
“It’s probably never gonna stop,” he said with a laugh, adding, “It’s cool seeing he’s had a lot of success in the NFL, winning the Super Bowl and his parade speech was legendary. It’s definitely, I wouldn’t say bragging rights, but we’re always competing.”
