Trevor Noah’s Response to ‘Hate Speech’ From Kanye West That Got His Instagram Restricted
Kanye West, now known as Ye, is on an Instagram hiatus due to his account being temporarily suspended for 24-hours as a result of posts deemed hateful and inflammatory. Ye has been on a tirade for months speaking out against his ex-wife’s new beau, SNL star Pete Davidson. Additionally, he speaks about anyone who aligns with Davidson or calls out his actions as stalking or harassing the new couple. But it reportedly was Ye’s remarks about Trevor Noah that enacted the ban, which many say is long overdue. Now, Noah is speaking out.

Instagram suspended the Yeezy founder’s account on Wednesday, Mar. 16 for a day after the social media platform found the rapper guilty of violating a handful of their polices. A Meta spokesperson confirmed to the LA Times that Instagram restricted Ye from posting, commenting and sending direct messages, among other actions, on the app for a full 24 hours.
In addition, Instagram has also deleted content from Ye’s page that it said fell under the categories of hate speech, bullying and harassment. They warned they would take further action against Ye should future posts continue to break their rules.
The ban came after Ye made a racist slur toward Daily Show host, Noah, calling him a “k–n.” In the Black community, a “k–n” is a term used to describe a Black person who is anti-black and acts against Black people for the progression of their own good and for white acceptance. Ye’s post came in response to remarks Noah made about Ye’s ongoing behavior toward his Kim Kardashian Davidson. The reality star turned lawyer filed for divorce from Ye in Feb. 2021 and began dating Davidson that October.
What Trevor Noah said in response to Ye’s remarks
Noah caught wind of Ye’s now-deleted post in his own lengthy Instagram post. He shared both admiration for Ye’s talent and concern for the seemingly out of control behavior. “There are few artists who have had more of an impact on me than you Ye,” Noah said, per the LA Times’ report. “You took samples and turned them into symphonies… You’re an indelible part of my life Ye”
But despite his love for Ye’s art, he can’t ignore the apparent spiral Ye is on and considers it to be dangerous. “It breaks my heart to see you like this,” Noah continued. “I don’t care if you support Trump and I don’t care if you roast Pete. I do however care when I see you on a path that’s dangerously close to peril and pain.”
He considers Ye’s online rampages toward Kardashian specifically to be abusive. Noah said in support of Kardashian on his show, stating:
People always say that phrase to women. They go, ‘Why didn’t you leave?’ … Because a lot of women realize when they do leave, the guy will get even crazier. And when I say ‘crazy,’ I don’t mean ‘mental health crazy…What we’re seeing … is one of the most powerful, one of the richest women in the world, unable to get her ex to stop texting her, to stop chasing after her, to stop harassing her,” he continued. “Just think about that for a moment. Think about how powerful Kim Kardashian is, and she can’t get that to happen.
In regards to the slur he was called, Noah chalks it up to ignorance. “Clearly some people graduate but we still stupid,” he added. “Don’t ever forget, the biggest trick racists ever played on Black people was teaching us to strip each other of our blackness whenever we disagree. Tricking us into dividing ourselves up into splinters so that we would never unite into a powerful rod.”
Ye says he will continue to speak out
The rapper has always been vocal but has never been active on social media until he and Kardashian began having marital trouble. He also used social media to show his support of Donald Trump previously, as well as for to push his own political agenda.
Now, Ye claims he is using social media to “control his narrative.” He alleges that kardashian and co. are trying to mute him and paint him out to be mentally unstable and an absentee father.
