Trina McGee rose to fame with her role on the TV show Boy Meets World as Angela. Although her part in the ’90s sitcom was that of a young woman making her way in the world, the actor’s real life was different. Aside from experiencing racism from her co-stars and crew, the star had children to take care of. Learn why McGee once called the hit sitcom “a nice getaway” from her real life.

McGee’s character Angela Moore first appears in Boy Meets World Season 5. She starts as Shawn’s girlfriend-of-the-week, but he breaks things off due to his rule about keeping relationships short. Cory convinces him to pursue something real with her. McGee recurred throughout the season, joining as an official cast member in season 6.

After beginning college, Shawn and Angela break up again after Shawn insists they see other people. While Angela agrees, she later confesses that it was an act and that she still has feelings for him. Shawn also feels the same. Their relationship faces more ups and downs in season 7 before Angela eventually leaves for good ahead of the series finale.

McGee found the show to be a nice escape

McGee was the oldest of the bunch on Boy Meets World. The actor landed her role when she was 28 years old. She was about 10 years older than Ben Savage, Danielle Fishel, and Rider Strong, who were in their late teens, just like their characters.

When McGee was tapped to play Angela on the show, she was already married to Randall Courtland Davis, who she later split from in 2001.

The cast had a reunion on Good Morning America in 2022. When asked about her thoughts on playing the much-younger Angela, McGee expressed the strangeness of the situation. “It was really surreal playing a high schooler/ college freshman, and I would really come home to three kids.” However, she added positively, “it was a nice getaway.”

McGee hasn’t acted much since Boy Meets World ended. She reprised her role in an episode of the spinoff series Girl Meets World but hasn’t appeared on a TV show in several years. However, McGee did make headlines years later when she addressed her experiences on the show.

In 2020, McGee brought to light the racism she faced on the set of Boy Meets World. In a series of tweets, she called out three cast members saying they were rude to her. While McGee never named any of the people she felt disrespected by, fans could piece together who the actor implied, calling out Fishel, Savage, and Will Friedle, who played Eric.

McGee offered an update a few weeks later, saying Friedle and Fishel had called to apologize for their insensitivity and remarks toward her. In the 2022 interview, she expressed her “love” for her castmates, so it looks like they cleared the air.
