Trixie Mattel, formerly the winner of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ is now releasing a 1960s-inspired album

Summer came early for Trixie Mattel fans. You may know her as a contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race and from her YouTube series, with Katya Zamolodchikova, UNHhhh. This drag queen is also a beauty mogul, creating the company Trixie Cosmetics. During live performances, Trixie Mattel tap dances, plays the clarinet, and even performs original songs.

She first released her album Two Birds in 2017, rising in the singer-songwriter charts on iTunes. The following year, she premiered her second country-folk album One Stone. Now, Trixie Mattel is departing from country music with her recently-released album, entitled Barbara. This full-length rock album premiered on Feb. 7, 2020.

Trixie Mattel released the YouTube video, entitled ‘One Night Only,’ ahead of her album release

Fans first got a peek into the drag performer’s album with videos posted to YouTube. On Jan. 27, Trixie Mattel posted a 22-minute-long “stand-up” show, where she performed for some of her dolls. Literally. In between jokes and crying about past lovers, Mattel shared a few of the songs off of Barbara. That includes “Jesse Jesse,” “Gold,” and “Malibu.”

Within 12 hours, the video earned over 100,000 views, and praise from fans of the chart-topping artist. Trixie Mattel also released “Malibu” as a single, which is currently available on streaming platforms Spotify and Apple Music.

“What??? What did [you] say ??? Sorry what??? I can’t hear you, I’m listening to ‘Jesse Jesse’ by Trixie Mattel in the Barbara album,” one Twitter user said.

“So.. ‘Malibu’ by Trixie Mattel is a summer bop and I want more songs like this. I love songs that have a beachy vibe like that, send me [recommendations, I don’t care] about genre or language, whatever. Beach vibes pls,” another Twitter user said.

Trixie Mattel’s ‘Barbara’ has eight new songs for fans to listen to

If you like the groovy music of the 1960s, Trixie Mattel’s got you covered. Barbara has eight songs, six of which were written by the Malibu Barbie herself. Logo reports, “one of the other tracks, ‘Stranger,’ was written by Patrick Haggerty and Robert Hammerstrom of Lavender Country fame.”

“A decade of being Trixie has me looking back at my initial sketches of her with freshly painted-on eyes. She’s still the plastic paragon I’ve always imagined; a Malibu-mod fashion doll with a darkened wit—but now there’s more,” Trixie said in a statement.

“While Hollywood has afforded me a life of astroturf and pink hi-balls, I’ve also been wisened by deep love and suspicious tan lines. I created Trixie Mattel with a ‘Side A/Side B’ to the character, so this record’s two-part feel is as natural to me as teasing my hair.”

Fans can see Trixie Mattel performing live during her “Grown Up” tour, which takes place during 2020. To learn more about this drag performer, visit her website. Music by this drag performer is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and most streaming platforms.
