Squid Game has a few celebrity fans — Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova among them. For one YouTube series, the RuPaul’s Drag Race queens reacted to the music (and the story) of this Netflix original series.

Squid Game is what happens when people’s lives and millions of dollars are on the line. This Netflix original series also features an original soundtrack available on most music streaming platforms.

South Korean composer, Jung Jaeil, chose and composed the music for Squid Game. Modern hits were included in the storytelling, including one version of “Fly Me To The Moon” in the “Hide and Seek” game. Additionally, the players are woken up by Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in E flat major.

The Netflix series included original compositions, some of which earned millions of Spotify streams. According to classicfm.com, this combination of classical hits and traditional Korean soundtracks is what makes Squid Game’s music so unique.

“In the Oscar-winning film, Parasite, the composer played the musical saw on the track ‘Camping’, and his piercing recorder-playing is one of the first sounds heard by audiences watching Squid Game, with the track ‘Way Back Then’ introducing the show,” the website states.

Trixie Mattel and Katya commented on the music of ‘Squid Game’

Besides starring on RuPaul’s Drag Race season 7, drag queens Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova appear in a Netflix YouTube series called “I Like To Watch.” They react to some movies and television programs available to subscribers.

After several Vanessa Hudgens films, Trixie Mattel and Katya finally sat down to react to Squid Game, one of Netflix’s most popular shows of 2021. Both drag performers had already binge-watched the series, sharing their excitement at rewatching for the YouTube series.

“I’m excited to re-live it with you because I have thought. Thoughts and feelings,” Trixie Mattel said. Katya agreed, stating, “I blame capitalism.”

While watching the dalgona candy episode, Trixie Mattel started dancing to the background music — “Needles and Dalgona” by Park Minju. Katya snapped along with her co-star.

“None of the musical girls are doing it like Squid,” Trixie Mattel joked while dancing. “Dua Lipa? Flop. Doja Cat? Flop.”

Trixie Mattel is a country artist as well as a drag performer, earning praise for albums Two Birds and One Stone. She’s also not the first celebrity to share her support for Squid Game and its soundtrack.
