’90 Day Fiancé’: Are David Murphey and Lana Still Engaged?
David Murphey had one of the most outrageous storylines on this past season of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. He was in love with a Ukrainian woman named Lana who he had never met despite going to Ukraine several times to do so. In the strangest turn of events, Lana turned out to be real and the two got engaged. But where do they stand now?
David only dates Ukrainian women
Murphey had been online dating for over a decade before he met Lana. In fact, by the time he started messaging his blonde beauty, he had already given up American women completely.
“I stopped dating in the USA 15 years ago,” he wrote in an Instagram Q&A. “Every time I did I would start thinking about Ukraine, so I stopped trying so my heart was free just in case I went to Ukraine. I have dated well over 100 women in Ukraine. Turned down many marriage proposals and have been turned down twice myself.”
Everyone thought Lana was a catfish
From the moment Murphey began telling his story on the show, everyone thought that Lana was a catfish. She refused to meet him, even when he was in Ukraine, which made fans think that she wasn’t who she said she was. After multiple trips to Ukraine, even Murphey got nervous and hired a private investigator.
“I know I got a lot of lies from Lana,” he said on the show. “So I’m hoping the investigator will validate that Lana is who I think she is because I don’t know if I’m ready to find out if my truth is not the truth.”
Unfortunately, the investigator also believed that Lana was lying.
“He truly believes that this is a scam,” Murphey’s Ukrainian friend Victoria told him of the investigator. “Because when they checked all data and all connections, they find out this girl [has] several dating accounts.”
Lana and David get engaged
On his final attempt to meet Lana in Ukraine, she actually showed up. The two spent a few days together and at the end of his trip, he proposed. Lana accepted but by the tell-all special, it seemed that the engagement might have been off.
“Right now, I would say we are not together,” Murphey said at the reunion. “I’m not going to say we won’t be together in the future. She’s under way too much stress with what’s going on with the show. And the people who bother her. I told her that’s part your fault, you can get off.”
Where do Lana and David stand now?
Now that Murphey has recently retired, he is ready to travel full time. According to comments on Instagram captured by SoapDirt, Murphey still wants to be with Lana but said that they cannot be together in the United States until they are officially engaged which must mean that the engagement that fans saw on tv was either fake or called off.
He also revealed that Lana is trying to get a visa to come to America, though he is not sure if she really wants to live in the U.S.
