Twilight still follows Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson around. Both have had accomplished careers since the vampire franchise. However, for many who loved the books and movies, they will always be Bella and Edward, respectively. In the beginning, Stewart was on the brink and said if one thing had gone differently, she might not have done the movies.

Stewart spoke about her casting at the 2008 press junket for the first Twilight movie. Here’s why she said one aspect of production made all the difference for her.

This may have made Kristen Stewart quit ‘Twilight’

Stewart was cast as Bella before they had found their Edward Cullen. Stewart has said before that she chose Pattinson as Edward. In 2008, Stewart said she felt so strongly about Pattinson that he was the only actor with whom she felt she could have made Twilight.

“If Rob didn’t get the part and if they didn’t think I was right about who we should cast, I couldn’t have done the movie,” Stewart said.

To further clarify, Stewart said if she’d never met Pattinson she might have accepted someone else. Once she met him, however, there was no one else.

“I probably would have done it if he never came in and just sort of made it work with someone else, but he was the only guy who came in feeling like [the right one],” she said.

The reason Robert Pattinson was vital to ‘Twilight’

Stewart had to play a high school girl who fell in love with a vampire who was over a century old. Pattinson was the only actor who delivered qualities that made sense to Stewart.

“I mean, he looked terrified and he looked like you could feel pain from him,” Stewart said. “He wasn’t just concerned about standing in a statuesque way posing. He had the right things going on in his head and at the same time, he was very responsive. Like, he didn’t have a set thing he was doing. Depending on what I did, he changed his performance.”

Robert Pattinson was the most honest Edward Cullen

Stewart felt the other actors who auditioned for Twilight had reservations about Edward Cullen. Only Pattinson was honest.

“I hate it when people are so structured that they’ve got what they’re doing down,” Stewart continued. “We looked and we could see each other. It was a responsiveness thing and I didn’t have that with anybody else and I was just thinking, ‘God, everybody’s lying to me. Why are you all lying? Just go ahead and have the balls to do it for real.’ I’m not saying live the story, but be there while you’re there. He was the only one that did that. He’s really a hard worker. I like that. I don’t like lazy actors.”
