‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’: Was There Actually a Fifth Mole Woman?
Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne had plenty of tricks up his sleeves. Or rather, under his beard. Sometimes he would dress as a fire monster. Other times he would voice the fifth mole woman, ‘Lil Lisa.
In early scripts for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, there actually was supposed to be a fifth mole woman trapped in the bunker. Here’s what we know about this Netflix original series.
‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ introduced Netflix subscribers to the ‘Indiana Mole Women’
Although she was one of the first people kidnapped by the Reverend, Kimmy Schmidt wasn’t alone in the bunker. There were four kidnapping victims nicknamed the “Indiana Mole Women.” That includes Kimmy’s best friend named Cyndee Pokorny, Gretchen Chalker, and Donna Maria Nuñez.
These women went through some pretty tough sugar, as Kimmy would say. Together, they put the Reverend in jail and formed a lifelong friendship. Even from jail, though, the criminal was finding ways to mess with Kimmy, even bringing up the alleged fifth mole woman, ‘Lil Lisa.
The Reverend had plenty of tricks, including Lil’ Lisa
Technically, these characters never actually saw Lil’ Lisa when they were trapped in the bunker. According to Gretchen, though, this imaginary fifth woman died from an “exploded booby.” She was then taken up to “girl heaven,” which is stupid and pink.
Kimmy Schmidt knew that Lil’ Lisa was just another trick from the Reverend, even when he brought her up from jail months later. He did confuse her by pretending to put ‘Lil Lisa on the phone while drinking a glass of water. When it came to the actual Netflix original series, there almost was another character added to the bunker.
There was originally going to be a fifth ‘Mole Woman’
An early version of the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt pilot, titled “Tooken,” includes a fifth mole woman — an FBI Agent named Clarisse. According to georgetakei.com, “she would have revealed that after being disarmed and trapped in a refrigerator by the Reverend, she agreed to join the bunker.” This character never made it to the released episodes of Netflix’s series.
Although Kimmy Schmidt left Indiana to follow her dreams of being a New Yorker, she did see the Mole Women during some episodes. During the “Kimmy Fights a Fire Monster” episode, she caught up with Donna Maria, learning about her successful sauce business.
In the “Kimmy Meets a Celebrity!” episode, Kimmy Schmidt tried to stop her friend from marrying her gay childhood crush. During a separate adventure, she stopped Gretchen from building a bomb and killing her “child husbands.”
Kimmy Schmidt also spent time with her roommate, Titus, and her landlord, Lillian. Episodes of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt are available for streaming on Netflix.
