‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’: Who Was Amy Sedaris’ Character?
Amy Sedaris of The Mandalorian, At Home with Amy Sedaris, and Strangers with Candy appeared in one Netflix original series, even returning for the interactive episode, released during 2020. Here’s what we know about Sedaris’ role in Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Netflix’s ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ starred Ellie Kemper and Tituss Burgess
She’s a little girl in the big city. After being kidnapped and freed from an underground bunker, Kimmy Schmidt moved to New York with hopes of starting over. Ellie Kemper portrayed the main character in the Netflix original series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
The star on the rise, Titus Andromedon aka Ronald Wilkerson aka Cork Rockingham aka Trevor Millionaire was portrayed by the Broadway actor Tituss Burgess. These characters took on New York City together, even meeting some of the city’s socialites, including Kimmy’s boss, Jacqueline White.
Amy Sedaris portrayed Mimi Kanasis for ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’
Viewers also met some of Jacqueline White’s acquaintances. Deirdre Robespierre, the “head mom” and rival of Jacqueline, was played by Anna Camp. There was also Mimi Kanasis, portrayed by Sedaris.
As a “close” friend of Jacqueline White, Kimmy called this character to encourage Jacqueline to get a divorce. Things only go downhill from there. Mimi Kanasis appeared several times throughout this series, often messing things up along the way.
When Jacqueline hosted a gala, Mimi gave the venue the wrong date. After Jacqueline picked the character up from the hospital, Mimi drove her crazy with weird demands. She casually flung off her heels before stepping on Jacqueline’s expensive rug. Mimi even forgot to give her dad insulin, saying, “I’ll just give you double insulin tomorrow.”
Amy Sedaris acted in the interactive episode on ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’
After four seasons of adventures with Kimmy Schmidt, Lillian, and Titus, Netflix debuted its final episode of the comedy series in 2019. That excludes the interactive special that premiered during 2020, featuring the return of several cast members, including Sedaris.
“I didn’t say goodbye because I thought there was a rumor that there might be a movie, so I was kind of hopeful about it,” Sedaris said during an interview with Page Six. “I didn’t really say goodbye to [my character] Mimi [Kanasis]. She’ll be back.”
Sedaris did reprise her role as Mimi Kanasis for the interactive episode of this comedy series. During Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, the character offered advice with her usual Mimi twist. By the end of the episode, Kimmy Schmidt faced the reverend for the last time, getting married in the process.
