Usher Shares First Photo of Newborn Daughter, Sovereign
R&B star Usher is back to releasing new music this year and is also the mega mentor for season 19 of The Voice.
That’s not the only new-new the Atlanta native has going on in his life, as the singer just welcomed a new baby in September. Usher swung by The Ellen DeGeneres Show for a virtual visit and shared a photo of the latest addition to his family.
Usher and girlfriend Jenn Goicoechea welcomed a daughter
Usher, who shares sons Usher Raymond V and Naviyd with ex-wife Tameka Foster, began dating Goicoechea in late 2019. In August 2020, the couple announced they were expecting their first child together, and they welcomed daughter Sovereign Bo Raymond on Sept. 30.
Weeks before the baby’s birth, Usher appeared on James Corden’s The Late Late Show and kidded around about what to name his third child and whether it would be an Usher namesake repeat.
“Well not like George Foreman, I can’t name all my kids George,” he said. “If it’s a girl I don’t think that Usher would flow well.”

Usher’s initial social media birth announcement showed only baby Sovereign Bo’s tiny hand, but during his guest spot on Ellen, fans had a chance to see the adorable little girl in a new photo.
He told Ellen that she was originally due on Nov. 11 but in true Libra fashion, she couldn’t make a firm decision and arrived early.
The “Bad Habits” singer also joked that the baby was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around her wrist as if she was trying to pull herself out on purpose.
As far as his sons, Usher said his boys are doing great as big brothers to their new sister. He described them as being super protective.
Fans will also spot the photo of Sovereign Bo on Usher’s Instagram account. He just posted it with sweet message on her original due date of 11/11.
“Happy 11:11 Sovereign … today was the day I thought you would arrive. Congratulations messages continue to pour in for the singer and his girlfriend on Instagram after they both shared different pictures of their bundle of joy.
Usher discussed upcoming projects
In addition to appearing in Hulu’s Bad Hair and promoting two fresh singles, Usher is readying himself for a Las Vegas residency next year. He’s set to hit Caesars Palace in July 2021 for two weeks, and then again in December. He’ll be showcasing 20 years’ worth of hits during his run.
Usher also teased that another album is currently in the works with a possible release date in 2021. For now, fans can catch him mentoring artists on The Voice, and can listen to his new songs “Bad Habits,” “This Day,” or “I Cry.”
