Wendy Williams earned her reputation as a shock jock partially because of the drama her interviews and opinions typically sparked. She’d feuded with quite a few celebrities over the years, including Usher’s ex-wife Tameka Foster. However, Foster felt the attention Williams brought her way was also a good thing.

Williams has had plenty of horrific interviews over the years. Although her segment with Foster might not have been the worst, it definitely sounded like an uncomfortable experience for both. Williams invited Foster onto her show assuming that Foster had some interesting things to say about her ex-husband.

But when it was time for Foster to spill a few secrets, Williams was disappointed by the material the Bold & Bougie star gave her. Since then, Williams has had a less than favorable opinion toward her, and she’s never been shy about expressing it to the public. In a 2020 interview with Essence, Foster claimed she didn’t mind the jabs. She looked at it as Williams simply putting more eyes on her, which could translate to more business.

“Wendy Williams is obsessed with me. I think that is so sexy to have someone talk about me every day, especially when I don’t have a CD, demo, or TV pilot. I’m just a stylist and designer and if I can be mentioned in the same breath as Diddy, then I must be doing something right. I think she loves me more than she lets on. I need to make her a part of my marketing team,” she said.

She also gave her own version of how she and Williams officially met. Foster confided that they ran into each other at a fashion party, and Williams invited her onto her radio program after chatting for a bit.

“She invited me to come on her show and talk about my clients. I knew she’d ask me some personal things,” she said. “When I showed up she jumped right into asking me questions about Usher and his mom and whether or not he is rude to her and if they get along. I didn’t go there for that. So her version is that I was drunk when she met me but I never had one drink. She also claims I came to her show to air dirty laundry on Usher and got cold feet. But the truth is she was mad because I wouldn’t dish on anybody.”

Foster would still feel the effects of the Williams interview a few years after their encounter. In an interview with The Breakfast Club, Foster shared that she saw going on Williams’ show as an opportunity to market herself and her business. But she admitted she had little knowledge of Williams or her interview style before their meeting.

“I was like, ‘Yes!’ I was thinking, ‘This is gonna be great for my career. I’m gonna be on New York radio, I’m gonna talk about my job as a stylist,’” Foster remembered feeling. “Well, I got on there, the first question was like, ‘So, is dadada gay? And does dadada get along with their mom?’”

In hindsight, Foster agreed she should’ve done a bit more research about Williams before meeting her. But no one in her inner circle warned her about the talk show host. In the end, the press she received from the moment wasn’t the kind she wanted, and her relationship with Williams never rebounded. Foster even confided that Williams referenced her in her lifetime documentary Where Is Wendy Williams?

“When she did the whole doc, I’m in that. She went on a tirade for many years. And many years after that, all the media just kind of jumped on the bandwagon of, ‘She’s a man, she looks like a man. She’s this, she’s ugly. She’s old.’ So, I didn’t have a chance,” Foster said.
