Utterly Toxic Meghan Markle Allegations Unveiled: ‘Undermining’ Staff With ‘Mean Girls’ Conduct
An utterly toxic set of allegations against Meghan Markle has been unveiled in a new Vanity Fair feature. Five years after exiting the royal family, Meghan’s actions were placed under a microscope by the publication, with former staffers sharing stories of “undermining” conduct similar to that displayed in the film Mean Girls.
The article cited those who reportedly had close relationships with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but Meghan and Harry declined to be interviewed for Vanity Fair’s article.
Meghan Markle accused of emotional flip-flopping toward employees
Vanity Fair reports Meghan Markle had a hot and cold relationship with her staff. This assessment came after speaking to former employees who worked with Meghan and Prince Harry on their one-season Spotify podcast Archetypes.
“The source who worked in media projects says Meghan’s own relationships with employees tended to follow a familiar pattern. She would be warm and effusive at the beginning, engendering an atmosphere of professional camaraderie,” the article states.
“When something went poorly, often due to Meghan and Harry’s own demands—such as a teaser for Archetypes being released five months before the show premiered and before there was any tape to promote—Meghan would become cold and withholding toward the person she perceived to be responsible,” writes Vanity Fair’s Anna Peele. “The source says it was ‘really, really, really awful. Very painful.”
Peele continued, “Because she’s constantly playing checkers—I’m not even going to say chess—but she’s just very aware of where everybody is on her board. And when you are not in, you are to be thrown to the wolves at any given moment. In practice, they say, that manifested as ‘undermining. It’s talking behind your back. It’s gnawing at your sense of self. Really, like, Mean Girls teenager.’”
If Meghan ‘acknowledged’ her behavior, she would be perceived differently
In the Vanity Fair story, those who worked with and for Meghan Markle cited different personal experiences. Reporter Anna Peele shared details from two sources who claim Archetypes staffers dealt with these in different ways.
Peele wrote one employee took a leave of absence after working with Meghan, while others left their roles, and took “extended breaks.” However, the article cites one person who believes the Duchess of Sussex would be perceived differently by her staff had she done one simple thing.
“I think if Meghan acknowledged her own shortcomings or personal contributions to situations rather than staying trapped in a victim narrative, her perception might be better,” they explained. “But who am I to criticize Meghan Markle? She’s doing great.”
Prince Harry defended Meghan Markle
In Prince Harry’s autobiography Spare, Harry defended his wife, Meghan Markle, against claims of bad behavior. He says negative narratives surrounding Meghan began after a 2018 royal tour.
Harry alleged that his and Meghan’s popularity ruffled the royal household’s feathers. Shortly after, stories of Meghan being difficult began appearing in the country’s infamous tabloids.
“Then a work of fiction about Meg making her staff miserable,” Harry wrote in Spare. “Driving them too hard, committing the unpardonable sin of emailing people early in the morning. (She just happened to be up at that hour, trying to stay in touch with night-owl friends back in America—she didn’t expect an instant reply.)”
“She was also said to have driven our assistant to quit; in fact that assistant was asked to resign by Palace HR after we showed them evidence she’d traded on her position with Meg to get freebies. But because we couldn’t speak publicly about the reasons for the assistant’s departure, rumors filled the void. In many ways that was the true start of all the troubles. Shortly thereafter, the ‘Duchess Difficult’ narrative began appearing in all the papers.”
Harry claimed that he and Meghan refuted the allegations in a letter to the palace’s HR department, standard protocol within the royal family. He also believed the remarks against his wife were part of a campaign against her from within the palace walls.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle married in 2018. He previously called out the press for ‘abuse and harassment” of Meghan in 2016.
