Val Kilmer Admits He ‘Couldn’t Wait to Kiss’ Costar Angelina Jolie and Buy Her a Jet While Filming ‘Alexander’
Val Kilmer is a celebrated American actor, a versatile star of stage and screen. Kilmer has been in the movie industry since the early eighties and has appeared in everything from action epics to classic Westerns. How did Val Kilmer become famous?
Kilmer was born in Los Angeles in 1959. He experienced a lot of tragedy in his early life. His parents divorced when he was only nine years old, and his brother Wesley drowned at the age of fifteen.
As a teenager, Kilmer developed an interest in acting and began attending the prestigious Juilliard School for Drama. While at Juilliard, Kilmer began writing his own plays and starred in a number of stage productions as well.
His introduction to films was in the early eighties after he starred in the comedy film Top Secret! Kilmer started gaining recognition in Hollywood almost immediately, and he was featured in several big-name movies, including, most famously, Top Gun, opposite Tom Cruise.

Kilmer’s next serious high-profile romance was with his Willow co-star, actress Joanne Whalley. The two married in 1988 and welcomed two children before eventually divorcing in 1996.
Kilmer dated actress Daryl Hannah in 2001 for several years before breaking up. Hannah went on to marry the musician Neil Young, and in his biography, Kilmer wrote that losing Hannah was the “most painful” of all his failed relationships.

In 2004, Kilmer was cast in Oliver Stone’s epic historical drama, Alexander. The film featured an all-star cast in addition to Kilmer, including Colin Farrell, Anthony Hopkins, Jared Leto, and the beautiful actress Angelina Jolie.
Jolie already had quite a reputation in Hollywood and was well-known as a “bad girl” with a fondness for tattoos and whirlwind romances.
Kilmer admitted in his memoir that he developed feelings for Jolie pretty early on in filming. He wrote that Jolie was “more gorgeous” than other superstars and that the two were staying at the same hotel around the time that filming began.
Kilmer was excited about the prospect of playing opposite Jolie, and wrote that he “couldn’t wait to kiss Angie, buy her a Gulfstream jet and have V+J painted in rainbow glory on the tail.”
If Kilmer and Jolie did enjoy a romance during the filming of Alexander, it would have been short-lived at best. Not long after filming Alexander, she entered into a long-term relationship with Brad Pitt. As for Kilmer, he clearly remembers his time with the superstar fondly.
