‘Vanderpump Rules’: Tom Schwartz Didn’t Think He and Katie Maloney Would Stay Together
Tom Schwartz from Vanderpump Rules recently admitted that he wasn’t always entirely sure he and wife Katie Maloney-Schwartz would stay together.
Viewers watched the couple have explosive fights, sometimes the fights came with extremely low blows. But the couple revealed that while they fought viciously, they loved just as intensely. In fact, they said one of the biggest misconceptions about their relationship was that they were unhappy and fighting all the time.
Tom Schwartz admits he wasn’t sure if the couple would stay together
“I just want to say, I feel like the misconceptions of our relationship is that we are like, Tom’s deeply unhappy and I’m a miserable shrew of a wife.,” Maloney-Schwartz said on her Dear Media podcast, You’re Gonna Love Me.
“I mean, we don’t hide our fights,” she added. “We have, you’ve seen on the show like pretty intense, horrific fights that, you know, suck. But, we’ve always been willing and able to like, live our relationship out loud. So you, you do see like the worst of the worst, but that’s not like the constant daily for us.”
Like most couples, Schwartz said they had their highs and lows. “And some in between,” he remarked. “But, yeah that’s, that’s not our baseline. I’m happy we made it for sure. There were points in our relationship. Which always kills me to say, which I didn’t think we were going to make it, you know?”
“Well, speaking of some of those times, a lot of people ask about how we have been able to rebuild trust in those times where we’ve been ruthless with one another when we’ve hurt each other and how we’re able to do that,” Maloney-Schwartz commented.
“I don’t want to normalize the fights that we have and like, make it seem like, Oh, it’s not a big deal,” she said. “Cause it is a big deal. Words matter. They can hurt, they can cut deep, but we do have this like kind of scary, toxic fighting style where we just want to say like more horrific things than the next.”
Katie and Tom Schwartz say they are happier than ever
Schwartz shared he’s seen many comments from fans insisting he was unhappy and was pressured into his relationship with Maloney-Schwartz. “A lot of the ultimatum, the engagement, the wedding,” he said.
“But you know, there were points in the relationship where I was reluctant and unsure about our future as we’ve talked about many times, but, you know, right now, I’m happier than I’ve ever been,” he added.
“I’m more in love than I’ve ever been,” Schwartz continued. “And I feel like we’ve just finally hit our stride after eight or nine, 10 tumultuous years. It was not pretty, it was not fairytale beginnings. I feel like we get stronger every day.”
Katie Maloney-Schwartz says they don’t fight every day
Maloney-Schwartz agreed with her husband’s observations. “Yeah I think people’s misconception watching the show is that we just like hate each other and we fight every single day,” she said.
But Schwartz acknowledged that they have said some “scathing” things to each other. Schwartz called his wife “gross” and an “idiot” when she was upset during Tom Sandoval’s prank arrest at their house last season.
“But we’ve gotten better about that,” he insisted. “Especially the ad hominem attacks name-calling, you know, like we’ve, expedited our conflict resolution skills.”
