Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) is a formidable and skilled Viking warrior. He’s had numerous memorable moments on the hit History series Vikings. His parents are arguably the most famous people in their world and he’s inherited good qualities from each of them. Read on to learn about Bjorn’s best moments.

Bjorn chooses his mother over his father at a young age

Bjorn seals his destiny when he tells his mother about his father’s infidelity with Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland). Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) is furious, and when a very pregnant Aslaug comes to see Ragnar (Travis Fimmel), Lagertha decides to walk away from her world.

Lagertha gives Bjorn a choice to go with her or stay with his father. At first, he chooses Ragnar, but at the last moment, he goes with his mother as she divorces his father and finds a new life. It’s a defining moment and one that will change Bjorn for the rest of his life. He’s extremely close to his mother even more than his father.

Bjorn convinces his mother to help get Kattegat back with Ragnar

Bjorn somehow convinces his mother to go and help Ragnar retrieve Kattegat back from the clutches of Jarl Borg (Thorbjørn Harr) with their forces from Hedeby. Bjorn reunites with his father and they won’t part again for a while. They get Kattegat back and Bjorn and his father grow closer.

He earns his name Ironside

In an epic battle with the Saxons, Ragnar dubs Bjorn “Ironside.” The battle doesn’t go too well for the Viking forces, but Bjorn and his father survive and live on to fight another day. From then on, he is known as Bjorn Ironside and he’s earned a sense of respect and admiration from the people. He is clearly Ragnar’s son.

Bjorn Ironside arrests Floki for the murder of Athelstan

Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård), once Ragnar’s closest friend, thought he was being replaced by Athelstan (George Blagden), a former monk. He kills Athelstan in a vicious attack and it’s pretty much suspected. Bjorn makes his feelings known to everyone with a public arrest of Floki. Ragnar isn’t too pleased once he realizes what’s happened. He finds it all too impulsive from his first son.

He kills the berserker

Bjorn decides to go out into the wilderness during winter to prove himself. He finds his cabin and settles into a harsh routine. A berserker is sent to kill Bjorn by both Erlendur (Edvin Endre) and Kalf (Ben Robson). Bjorn kills the attacker in a vicious altercation involving fishing hooks.

Bjorn fights with his brothers in the Great Heathen Army

Bjorn joins his brothers in a takedown of epic proportions. They bring the Great Heathen Army to England and take revenge for their father’s death. The victory is a major milestone for the Vikings who start truly settling the land and changing history itself.

Bjorn takes back Kattegat from Ivar the Boneless

After Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen) takes over Kattegat, Bjorn sails for England with Lagertha and some of his family. Eventually Bjorn decides to return to take back what’s rightfully his: the kingdom of Kattegat. He fights and becomes the king, and just in time when Lagertha, who has been missing, returns to proclaim him king as well. Lagertha, who was once the queen, respects his right and time to rule and seems happy with the outcome.

Bjorn Ironside has had numerous memorable moments throughout the course of Vikings. His story isn’t over just yet and there will be more shocking events to come in the final season.
