‘Vikings’: Fans Weigh in on the Moment That Made Them Cry
In the history of Vikings, there have been a number of shocking, sad, and unbelievable moments. However, one of those stands out above all the rest, and that’s the death of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel). Fans are still known to discuss the sad turn of events when Ragnar goes to England for revenge for the settlement in Wessex.
Ragnar returns for revenge after being away for years
After Ragnar suffers a major loss at the hands of his own brother when he attempts to raid Paris, he leaves his home and everything he’s ever known for a number of years. Eventually he returns looking for revenge for the destroyed settlement in Wessex. King Ecbert (Linus Roache) destroyed it not long after the majority of the Vikings left England.
Ragnar is set on going back to England for revenge, but no one seems to respect him anymore like they once did. He kept the destroyed settlement a secret and then up and abandoned them all many years ago. He does manage to get a skeleton crew of men together for the journey and he arrives in England.
Ragnar convinces Ecbert to hand him over to King Aelle (Ivan Kaye) because he knows his sons will then seek revenge for his death, securing his revenge. Ragnar is thrown into a pit of snakes and he dies cold and lonely. However, his sons do make it over to England with the Great Heathen Army and they get revenge for his death and the destroyed settlement.
