What happens to Hvitserk in season 6B of ‘Vikings’?

After Hvitserk accidently kills Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), his brother the king, Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) allows him to live. Hvitserk then encounters his other brother, Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen), who has allied himself with the Rus. He decides to stay with Ivar, and he’s with him when the Rus attack their native home of Scandinavia.

They may have won the first wave of fighting, but by the second battle, the Rus are sent packing after Bjorn, who’s been stabbed by what appears to be Ivar (even though he’s somewhere else entirely at the time), forms a plan to save his people. Bjorn spreads a rumor to the Rus that he’s already dead, and when he rides out to meet them, it scares the Rus forces. Bjorn is stabbed by three arrows and still unsheathes his sword and raises it into the air. His troops, who have answered his call, win the battle against their foes, but Bjorn dies in the process.

Hvitserk returns back to Kyiv with Ivar in defeat, and they help Prince Dir (Lenn Kudrjawizki) and Prince Igor (Oran Glynn O’Donovan) overthrow Prince Oleg (Danila Kozlovsky). Igor ends up killing him at Ivar’s insistence. Once that’s behind them, they decide to return to Kattegat, and eventually to Wessex to fight King Alfred (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) once more. Fans are treated to some amazing visuals of the two opposing sides fighting, and Hvitserk proves himself in battle.

However, Ivar dies during the fighting against Alfred in a strange turn of events. He doesn’t try to prevent his death, and just stands there when a Wessex soldier stabs him repeatedly, even telling him, “Don’t be afraid.” Hvitserk witnesses his brother’s death after Ivar convinces him to leave the thick of the fighting after soldiers recognize Hvitserk as a son of Ragnar and try to kill him.. It’s a sad moment for Hvitserk to have to see, and he mourns his brother dearly. Ivar is given a burial and Hvitserk says goodbye. But he chooses to convert to Christianity in the end of the final episode and stay in Wessex when the series concludes. It’s an unexpected end for the son of Ragnar.

Marco Ilsø recently shared an epic fight scene with his fans on Instagram. In the image, Hvitserk is fighting a soldier of Wessex in the final battle scene between both sides. He has his sword out to the side like he’s getting ready to attack, and he’s photographed mid-action with his mouth open and his battle gear swaying. The soldier stands with sword and shield ready to try and propel his opponent. There’s more fighting behind the two of them on both sides, as well as fire in the shot. A camera person can be seen capturing the moment at the same time.
