What happens to Ivar in season 6B of ‘Vikings’?
Fans will recall that Ivar allies himself with Prince Oleg (Danila Kozlovsky) along with his brother, Hvitserk (Marco Ilsø), in season 6. When Oleg’s army is defeated in the second attack, they retreat after seeing Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig), Ivar’s brother, who is thought to be dead at the time. He rides out on his horse after having a rumor spread to the Rus of his untimely demise. Although he is hurt from a stab wound, he meets the army head-on, and he’s shot with three arrows and somehow still unsheathes his sword. In the battle that follows, the Rus end up fleeing back to Kyiv, although Bjorn doesn’t make it.
Ivar returns to Kyiv as well, and Oleg starts to play him off of his brother. Oleg has a meeting with Hvitserk and Prince Igor (Oran Glynn O’Donovan), and he doesn’t let Ivar in. When Ivar confronts Hvitserk, they fight when loyalties are tested. Hvitserk really hurts Ivar badly, and Ivar is left with visible marks from the fighting. When he goes to see Oleg, the Prince offers to kill Hvitserk, but Ivar declines. But the brothers come together later to help Prince Dir (Lenn Kudrjawizki) and Igor overthrow Oleg. Ivar even insists Igor kill his uncle, which he does.
But Ivar soonchooses to go back to Kattegat, and eventually to Wessex with Hvitserk and King Harald (Peter Franzén). He fights against King Alfred (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo), who doesn’t agree to peace, and during the second wave of fighting, Ivar is killed. He hurts his legs during the battle, and he is stabbed by a Wessex soldier (which he does nothing to prevent). He even tells him, “Don’t be afraid.” He ends up dying in his brother’s arms, and they seem to reconcile their differences in the end.
Alex Høgh Andersen shares painful special effects look
Alex Høgh Andersen, who plays Ivar, has shared interesting behind-the-scenes content since the release of the final episodes. However, his most recent post might top them all. Alex displays his special effects makeup that shows the result of Ivar’s fight with Hvitserk this season. He appears to have a deep gash on his cheek that goes down to his lips. He’s also sporting a bloodshot eye as well. The makeup is quite impressive and appears to be completely real, even though it obviously isn’t. It’s all fake, and Alex shows himself removing the special contact lens that makes his eye look that way. After removing it, he shows Tom McInerney there as well, who is the makeup and prosthetics designer for the series according to IMDb. “Hey gorgeous,” Alex says as McInerney makes an appearance in the background.
“Hey gorgeous,” Alex captioned the post on Instagram.
It’s always nice to see behind-the-scenes content from the series, especially now that Vikings is officially over. Alex really topped what others have shared of the new season with this interesting special effects look.
