Before it closed its doors on Broadway, Hamilton welcomed fans from across the globe. That includes a few celebrities, who love musical theater, Hamilton, and the empowering messages of the show. From Samuel L. Jackson to Beyoncé, here are a few celebrities who attended Hamilton live while it was on Broadway.
‘Hamilton’ is one of Broadway’s most awarded musicals
Rapping, history, and a diverse cast? It could only be the Broadway musical created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton. Since its premiere, this show became a cultural phenomenon, selling out tickets months in advance.
Since its debut, Hamilton earned over 15 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical. The production even earned recognition from a number of singers, actors, and politicians. Some celebrities even attended its opening night performance.
Plenty of celebrities made an appearance at ‘Hamilton’s’ opening night
Even on opening night, some celebrities wanted to get a front-row seat to this Broadway production. When Hamilton first opened, people like Samuel L. Jackson, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Raven-Symoné were sure to attend, as seen in a video posted to Hamilton’s YouTube channel.
Since then, a few public figures stopped by Broadway to see the live production of Hamilton. That includes Vice President Mike Pence, talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, Neil Patrick Harris, Eli Manning, senator Bernie Sanders, and Eminem.
Even Beyoncé reportedly stopped by and shared her love for Jonathan Groff (King George) back in 2015. According to Entertainment Weekly, Queen Bey complemented Jonathan Groff’s walk and even demonstrated it. He then said, “the ground swallowed me up and I died happy.” Now, fans of the show can watch Hamilton from “the best seat in the house.”

Now, fans have the opportunity to watch Hamilton from the comfort of their own homes. Disney partnered with Lin-Manuel Miranda to bring a live recording of this musical to their streaming platform — just in time for the 4th of July weekend, too.
“In light of the extraordinary challenges facing our world, this story about leadership, tenacity, hope, love, and the power of people to unite against the forces of adversity is both relevant and impactful,” Disney chair Bob Iger said in a statement.
“We are thrilled to bring this phenomenon to Disney+ on the eve of Independence Day, and we have the brilliant Lin-Manuel Miranda and the team behind Hamilton to thank for allowing us to do so more than a year before planned,” he continued.
